Handgun purchase and conceal carry age should be lowered to age 18 because gun control laws do not deter crime; gun ownership and especially concealed gun ownership deters crime, It is a strong United States Constitutional right, It statistically saves many lives per year., and Concealed handguns protect the people who cannot always rely on police forces for protection. We the people need to step up to protect our loved ones. Gun control would not deter crime as nearly 8 in 10 gun crimes are committed with illegally-possessed guns. Estimates put the number between 200,000 and 2.5 million times per year that a firearm is used defensively. Compared to around 200,000 violent crimes including suicides that involve firearms. IMHO puts the number between 500,000 and 750,000 times per year, or roughly 2–4 times more lives saved than taken. Approximately 2 million times a year, having a gun prevents, or stops a violent crime. Which is far greater in number than are killed by guns. Most people (excluding suicides) are killed in inner cities with strict gun restrictions. In those cities, many more people are killed with guns that are saved by guns because the people are not allowed to defend themselves. If we take a look at the world as a whole, the violent crime rate in the US is extremely low compared to the rest of the world. According to statistics suicides are responsible for 64% of gun deaths, which is common in older white males. In Detroit, the average response time is 58 minutes. Arizona Sheriff Richard Mack said, " The police do very little to prevent violent crime. We investigate the crime after the fact." Also, the Supreme Court has ruled more than once that police officers have no legal duty to protect citizens from violent crime but to follow actions after the crime has been committed. So why won't the people want to arm themselves instead of waiting for others to come pick up the bodies. Some people believe that extremely tight gun control laws will eliminate crime, but gun control laws only prevent the 'good guys' from obtaining firearms. Criminals will always have ways of getting weapons, whether it be from the black market, cross borders, or illegal street sales. New gun control laws will not stop them. Since the shootings of Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook, the frequency of mass shootings has increased greatly. Gun control is not effective as it has not been shown to actually reduce the number of gun-related crimes. Instead of considering a ban of private firearm possession, and violating individual ownership rights, it may be more practical to consider the option of partially restricting firearm access.
Gun control laws aim to restrict or regulate firearms by selecting who can sell, buy and possess certain guns. Criminals do not obey laws and stricter gun control laws or banning guns will have little effect on reducing crimes. There are many myths about gun control reducing acts of gun violence, which are simply not true according to research. People are responsible for the crimes, not the guns themselves. Taking guns away from United States citizens that use them for many reasons, shooting practice, competition, hunting and self-defense, should not be punished for the acts of criminals. As stated by Mytheos Holt, “Guns in the right hands help public safety. Guns in the wrong hands harm public safety”. Research shows that defensive use of guns discourages criminals and reduces crime (Holt 2). Not only is it wrong to penalize law-abiding citizens, it is against the Second Amendment. It is unconstitutional to pass laws that infringe on the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

Guns do not kill people, people do. The American Dream is being able to work towards and achieve whatever makes you happy, whether it be owning your own business, joining the military, or staying at home raising a family, but the only way to reach your dream is to do it without living in fear that your dream will be taken away. In the last couple years mass shootings and attacks on schools have sadly become a common tragedy. Those who have been victims of public shootings or any other life scarring event due to a criminal, along with anyone else who has watched the coverage of the tragedies on the news is somewhat living in fear, but if concealed carry laws were passed then living in fear would be significantly lowered along with crime rates. According to Mike Miller, author of What Happened to Chicago’s Murder Rate After Illinois Upheld Concealed Carry and Why it Matters, “three to four crimes are stopped by a handgun than are committed in the United States every year” (Miller). People would feel much safer knowing they would be able to defend themselves if the time ever arose. When we think or hear about guns most of us jump to the negative effects and stories we have heard. The only stories we hear about guns are how a person’s life has ended because of it, but we never hear how they save a person’s life. It is important to remember the commonly used phrase when talking about concealed carry, “Guns do not kill people, people do.” However, guns are an effective way of protection and states should not make stricter gun control laws because it is ineffective and creates additional problems in today’s violent society.
Gun control was brought into play to protect citizens from criminals and lunatics who shouldn't have guns in the first place. But only 27 percent of the criminals who are in prison for crimes involving guns have obtained them legally (Henderson 23). If criminals can find guns illegally now, how is more gun control going to stop them from getting them later? Groups against gun control,the most dominant being the NRA (National Rifle Association), are afraid gun control is the first step in outlawing guns.
Ultimately, it is a person’s choice to use firearms to commit violent crimes. So criminals should be controlled, not the guns which they share with millions of law-abiding citizens. Gun control supporters claim that gun control lowers crime rate. We as people need to take a stand and fight for our Second Amendment and the right to bear arms. Gun control advocates need to realize that passing laws that honest gun owners will not obey is a self-defeating strategy. Gun owners are not about to surrender their liberties or their right to bear arms. The Federal Govement of the United States should not be able to take away the right of law-abiding citizens to own a gun.
Concealed pistols have always been an issue that the public wants to know more and more about. Most people who were born and raised in the outdoors agree fully on the legality of a concealed weapon, whereas people who were born in big cities where they did not hunt, shoot guns, or have a firearm in their house do not. This is a very large and argued about cultural issue. I personally am all for concealed carry of a firearm. There are many reasons for this such as personal defense, sense of safety, and the protection of others around me. There are some questions that are raised about the carrying of a concealed weapon such as “what states can I travel in with my firearm?”, “what is the process of applying for a concealed carry permit?”, and “can I enter a weapon free zone to stop a shooter?”. Concealed carry has proven able to reduce crime and lower the casualty rate of a shooter who enters a public area with the intent to kill as many people as possible. Some people argue that concealed weapons are just carried by people who are looking for trouble and that you can obtain a pistol without a background check. This will also be explored and explained thoroughly.
People who do not research the owning of handguns and form their opinion off of what they see on the news are left in the dark. One of the most misunderstood concepts is that more guns cause more violence. This is false more guns do not mean more homicides. In 1973, the handgun stock was 36.9 million and the homicide rate was 9.4 per 100,000. In 1992, the handgun stock was 77.6 million but the homicide rate dropped 8.5 percent. In 1994, the U.S. bureau of justice static's made a survey that stated 100,000 lives are saved by handguns. According to criminologist Gary Kleck, guns are fired in only about 24 percent of cases in which they are used for self-defense.
Crime and guns. The two seem to go hand in hand with one another. But are the two really associated? Do guns necessarily lead to crime? And if so do laws placing restrictions on firearm ownership and use stop the crime or protect the citizens? These are the questions many citizens and lawmakers are asking themselves when setting about to create gun control laws. The debate over gun control, however, is nothing new. In 1924, Presidential Candidate, Robert La Follete said, “our choice is not merely to support or oppose gun control but to decide who can own which guns under what conditions.” Clearly this debate still goes on today and is the very reason for the formation of gun control laws.

Gun control does not only take guns away from criminals, gun control also limits law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves and their families when necessary. Those who argue for gun control usually state guns are a part of most violent crimes. However, this is not always true. While it is true that limiting gun ownership with laws could prevent individuals from possessing guns, it does not prevent people from illegally having or using guns. Those who carry guns legally are not the problem.

All in all, responsible adults should have a right to carry a concealed handgun. Robbery and assault victims, who used a gun, were less likely to be attacked or suffer injury. Concealed handguns are an effective non-lethal form of self defense. Majority of adults who legally carry handguns do not misuse their firearms and carrying a concealed handgun could aid in ending public shoot sprees. Criminals carry concealed weapons regardless of their legality which means responsible citizens should be able to obtain a gun while using their firearm in the right way. Therefore, adults should have a license to carry a concealed handgun, obtain an authorization, and complete training requirements in order to be able to carry a concealed handgun
However, in the society we live in, there are always people that think that having a gun brings and promotes more violence into the communities and also that is a bad influence for the children that grow in that type of environment. The government should make gun control laws more restrictive, although I think that not even if they pass legislations regarding gun violence, there will still exist crimes involving firearms the percentage of this acts of violence may decrease. Gun violence make us question if police officers are they really doing their job? I consider that not all of them are doing their jobs well, there has been a lot of cases of police officers killing innocent people for no reason. Right now, in the United States of America, we have many cases involving police brutality. It is sad because police officers should be protecting those people from criminals; not killing the people that they should be protecting. It is reasonable that many police officers are afraid of getting shoot or killed to death. But that is what they had decided to do in order to protect society, then they should do it. People do not join the Army because they were forced, they wanted to protect their country from terrorists and from any threat that wants to harm American citizens. Even though there are so many deaths related to guns I believe that it is the people that are killing each other, not the guns. Guns kill people just as much as the pen in your hand makes the mistakes on your paper. Guns do not supply themselves with ammunition. They don’t aim at their target. And they don’t pull their own trigger. People are killing people, guns just make it easier.
