In modern times, a controversy has arisen over the issue of computers in schools. Even in grad schools and universities, teachers are turning to technology for their instruction to get a more hands on interaction with their students. Several parents and students support this idea of unlimited computer access, while others oppose such an overwhelming amount of technology in schools. In a transforming society, computers are essential to receive the most out of education.
Before the introduction of computers in schools, teachers would use information from textbooks and write lessons on chalkboards. Students would search through books and encyclopedias to complete assignments and write reports by hand. Computers first appeared in classrooms in 1995 and have been used ever since. After computers in classrooms were presented, teachers were able to visually teach a broader range of topics and students were exposed to a variety of references. Likewise, computers have affected how students and teachers communicate and how lessons are presented to the class. There is no doubt that computers are firmly implanted in our nation’s daily existence. Everyday I use a computer at least once, either writing a paper, surfing the Internet or checking my e-mail. On a recent trip to the library to do research I was quickly escorted by a librarian to the variety of computer databases, which are the fastest and most current source of information I found a survey in Statistical Abstracts of the United States comparing students use of computers in kindergarten through college from 1984 to 1993. A total of 27.3% of students used computers in schools in 1984, while a total of 59.0% used computers in 1993. This shows a steady rise in scholastic computer use and these figures are probably greatly inflated by now in 1997.

Even using the internet has a source of information for the students or has a tutorial for students who are struggling. There are so many ways that classrooms can benefit from computers. The first thing I looked at was how teachers were being affected by computers. Integrating technology into your teaching can change the way you deliver content to your classes.
