Computer Network Security Alternatives
Computer network security and integrity is a large concern among all types and sizes of companies. The options for solving security risks are as varied as the companies themselves. However, it is possible to break down the methods for dealing with security risks into three major categories. Companies have the option to:
1. Select best of breed products for their various security needs and assemble the products together to form their own customized solutions.
2. Purchase a security suite that contains security products that will address their various security needs.
3. Outsource security to another company rather than handle it internally.
This paper will summarize primary research conducted by Kang-hun Lee, Yonghoon Choi, Mike Loveridge, Tom Gonzales and David Linford over a three month period to determine market trends in the security software industry.
A survey instrument was prepared to capture the following data.
1. What do companies consider threats to their network environment?
2. What preferences do they have regarding specific security services?
3. What sort of security option do they prefer when choosing between: best of breed, suites or outsourcing.
Findings and analysis
Once the data were collected, we were able to organize and analyze the results. This section will both specify the analytical procedures we used as well as report on the findings. There are three (will be more when other sections get put in) primary types of analysis that we performed.
1. Find the security software preference
2. Segment the market based on preferred security options
Finding the security software preference
We analyzed the preference data from two perspectives. First of all, we took the data as a whole in order to describe the overall market.
Overall Market
The first type of analysis that we performed consisted of finding the percentage of respondents that preferred each of the three security options. The results of this analysis are summarized on chart 1.
We found at this point that most of the people who took the survey overwhelmingly preferred a security suite approach. Most of those who preferred best of breed indicated that if a suite could provide a best of breed package, then they would prefer a suite.
Security of the companies data is one of the most important components which allows the business to perform its day to day operation using various networking devices, services that absolutely needs to be protected from intruders. Some of these devices include online transactions, the exchange of data between users and clients both internal and external and external web data needs to be secured. There are several polices that would need to be configured such as a web sever and firewall configurations. However, with these configurations the first and most important task is to identify any vulnerabilities or loopholes in security within the company. The company has both LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and a web sever. These resources need to be secured at all times from hackers or anyone else by implementing the appropriate security measures.
During the process of analyzing an organizations effectiveness to manage cybersecurity risks, there are ranges of security policies that need to be implemented. A prime example of this concept is the cybersecurity policies developed for consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. The direct division formed to address the firm’s requirements within cyberspace is the Cyber Solution Network (CSN). The CSN division within Booz Allen Hamilton has a range of policies used to ensure the firm is protected against risk.
Security helps the organization meet its business objectives or mission by protecting its physical and financial resources, reputation, legal position, employees, and other tangible and intangible assets through the selection and application of appropriate safeguards. Businesses should establish roles and responsibilities of all personnel and staff members. However, a Chief Information Officer should be appointed to direct an organization’s day to day management of information assets. Supporting roles are performed by the service providers and include systems operations, whose personnel design and operate the computer systems. Each team member must be held accountable in ensuring all of the rules and policies are being followed, as well as, understanding their roles, responsibilities and functions. Organizations information processing systems are vulnerable to many threats that can inflict various types of damage that can result in significant losses (Harris, 2014). Losses can come from actions from trusted employees that defraud the system, outside hackers, or from careless data entry. The major threat to information protection is error and omissions that data entry personnel, users, system operators and programmers make. The way forward lays in a security risk management (SRM) approach that protects your company from the most severe threats to critical IT systems and operational processes. SRM helps your organization understand its assets and analyze the vulnerabilities it must address. Security risk management also facilitates internal and external compliance initiatives. It enables your organization to enforce policies that relate to the integrity of customer data, the configuration of corporate applications and databases, and the accuracy of financial reports. Potential risks and security breaches have been on the rise with a growing number of skillful hackers. This results in an increase to external threats to personnel and businesses. However, when complex security measures and the appropriate level of controls are utilized, there is a reduction to the potential risk and loss due to failure or breach. Therefore, such practice will enhance system reliability.
Network management planning and security planning involves identifying the best and most appropriate systems and hardware that the firm can use to better manage network and plan security systems. Therefore, the management required me to examine the best software and hardware systems in the market place that the company can adopt to enable it to manage the network and security. The management required me to advice on the implementation procedure of various plans that are going to be adopted. My responsibility also involved finding out or predicting the impact of the plan on the future operations. They required me to evaluate the challenges the company might face while adopting the changes in the network management plan and security plans.

The saved information will let the company’s employees continue to work while the IT department deals the damaged media.

Any network is vulnerable at its weakest point and perpetrators will try to get in any way that they can. Some just to see if they can and others for manipulated personal gain. Security measures, policy and procedures are written and tailored to meet the specific needs of an organization. Security tools are installed on networks to keep out cyber criminals.

Weaknesses to mistreatment in contemporarymainframes are wide-ranging.
