Computer engineering is the lovechild of electrical engineering and computer science: “separate, but intimately related,” (Soldman 4). What is computer engineering, and what distinguishes it from its electrical engineering and computer science forefathers? What do kinds of jobs are available to them? What kinds of problems do they solve? These questions seek relatively superficial answers—just a couple words or sentences could suffice—but answering these questions is what will make us cognizant of this field’s importance. So to grasp how important computer engineers are in today’s society, we must understand what a computer engineer is and does.
What is a computer engineer? The Joint Task Force on Computing Curricula defines the discipline
To put it bluntly, anything she wants. Just about any company with a computer—meaning any company besides the Amish, probably—could use a computer engineer to help design software, hardware, microelectronics, informational technology, or informational systems, to name a few (Soldman 14). Our computer engineer could go into healthcare to create anything from surgical robots to computing genetic data, or if she wants to be involved in fashion, she could work for a large retailer like Nordstrom and implement ways to “meet the needs of users,” through “application integration and administration of computing technologies,” (Soldman 16). Computer-science focused engineers, also known as those who heavily focused their coursework on the computer science end of computer engineering, even those going so far as to minor in computer science, can even become software engineers (“Minor in Computer Science”). With all the overlaps between requirements, and the huge job availability after graduation in more software-based fields, minoring in computer science has become popular among computer engineering graduates (“Minor in Computer Science”). According to the U.S. Department of Labor, software developers get a “median yearly pay of $102,280,” with a promising projected job growth rate of 17%, 10 percentage points above the national average (“Software Developers”). So no matter where our our engineer’s interests lie, there is a path forward with her computer engineering degree under her
Living in a modern society, technology continues to advance in ways that many would think impossible many years ago. Technology continues to aid the human race in many ways; such as making communication possible across continents within seconds, helping develop new medicines for previously incurable diseases, and completely tasks that would take hours to do by hand. However, technology does not just develop on its own as an intelligent being, but it continues to be molded by those that work in the field of computer science, computer engineering, and computer programming. Each level of the computerized fields has its own field of work, and each aids technology advancement in its own way. Computer programmers train to correctly perform their duties, understand the tools and language, and sharpen their personal qualities. Becoming a computer programmer is not an easy task and takes eons to perfect, as the code is forever changing to adapt to our needs.

Some computer scientists work on many types of projects such as collaborating with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and other specialists to complete their tasks.
The internet has exploded within the last fifteen years tagging along the necessity of computers and computing related devices. Everything from social media sites, to televisions, smartphones, and even microwave ovens are made operational by source codes. Because of the expansion of technology I have chosen to go down the path of Computer Science. Computer Science is the scientific and practical approach to computers and their applications. Although I don’t exactly know what I want to do in the future, I know that there will always be a need for people that are “tech-savvy”.
Their job is to develop and design computer system and other technological devices. Computer engineering concentrates on the way its computing ideas and mapped into working physical system. Computer engineers are trained in electrical engineering and hardware-software integration and software design. Therefor computer engineers have proficiency in electrical engineering and software design. Here are some branches of computer engineering: network, multimedia computing, VLSI system, reliable computing and advanced architectures.
A fascination for Science & Technology and keen interest in the ever-growing world of technology motivated me to take up engineering. The power of research and delivering it for the growth of Society is what makes me interested in the technology side of science. I choose to major Computer science Engineering with an intense urge to delve into this challenging field. During my under graduation program I learned the various fundamentals of Computer science Engineering which together with practical course works reinforced my interest.
Computer engineering is a very time consuming, challenging job. To be a good computer engineer you need years of experience and collage education. Computer engineers provide information and data processing for certain computer firms and organizations. They conduct research, design computers, and discover and use new principles and ideas of applying computers. I am going to tell you specific facts about the careers of computer engineers like payment, education needed, skills, responsibilities of the job, job outlook, and benefits of the job.
The fact that growth in computer science and electronics has made our life so much different and easier, than it was a decade ago has always inspired me to create things and come up with methods that minimize human effort and increase the overall efficiency. Over my 4 years of undergraduate study I have realized that, to chase my dream of creating something that revolutionizes our way of living I must contribute towards a field that has had the greatest impact on our lives. And this realization that has inspired me to pursue a master’s degree in the field Computer engineering from prestigious University of Chicago which is known for its research in fields that are already making our lives easier
The reason why I want to follow a computer science career began when I was fifteen. Starting from a math-specialized student in secondary school, I riskily registered for informatics as my major in high school. Surprisingly, from simple lines of a primitive program to concise algorithms for solving complicated problems, everything was appealing to me right at the very first time I learn programming. They unveiled a whole new world behind the familiar interfaces of computers, explained many things that I used to ambiguously call “technology”. Enlightened by such amazing subject, I decided to spend more and more time for computer-related activities. I started training seriously for competitive programming contests, translated and wrote academic articles about algorithms for informatics department’s books. I also founded a small group of students whose members share the same hobby of computer but interest in various subfields. Throughout three years in high school, those activities not only sharpened my knowledge and enhanced my social relationships, but also gradually brought up my fervent love for computer. Such miracle machine now has become an indispensable part of my life, and computer’s world has become my passion. Therefore,
Before letting know my intentions to pursue a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, I would like to throw some light on my childhood and the things that triggered me to choose Computer Science as my career. I was astonished when my science teacher told me about the Super Computers and their powerful usage in Space Administration as I was curious in knowing how typical tasks like launching a satellite were accomplished such easily. Throughout my childhood I have been fascinated by computers and computer games, but it was during this time that my interest in computers had truly taken a leap and when I first seriously started considering computer science as my career.
Opportunities in the field are extremely available to qualified personel. I have heard first-hand accounts of people being yanked out of collage for a programming position at $80,000 a year. With the expanding of the market for technology, comes the need for programers of all backgrounds. Job-security is pretty good as long as you dont kill somebody(wich recently happened at a dot-com-start-up). And the outlook for promotions is good considering the shortage of programers.
