Internet addiction has become a serious issue in society today because it causes people to neglect work, social relationships, and, in some cases it could alters one’s health. A large portion of Americans are involved with social-networking websites and this can also lead to a very serious addiction. “The average teen chooses to spend an average of 16.7 hours a week reading and writing online”(Goldwasser 239). By focusing on how much reading and writing a teen does on the computer, Goldwasser overlooks the deeper problem of whether or not this type of reading and writing is educational. Teenagers spend too much time on social networking websites and this trend can eventually make matters worse.
With that much time being wasted, students do not learn the material required to get good grades. When one day, you are bored by the class you are in, you pull out your iPad. College Student Development Emerging adulthood is a period of the life span between adolescence and full-fledged adulthood, and college students are one of the particular groups that are experiencing the emerging adulthood. The students’ possessiveness is still not as high as mature adults’, so they cannot make a correct judgment on every situation. Since the internet spreads all around the world, more and more people, especially college students, use internet regardless of the day. However, the internet is like a double-edged sword, and it also brings negative effects. Indeed, the Internet causes students to spend less time in study and physical communication, and it also harms students physical and mental health, too.
More than 78% of college and high school students pull all nighters at some point in their life in school. When pullin all nighters or not sleeping as long as students should people start to have sleep debt. Sleep debt is when people have exhausted themselves during the week and when the weekend comings you sleep as long as you can to try to make up for the loss of sleep you have missed during the week. Many students think this method will make them less tired in the long run, but it actually hurts them instead. As result of lack of sleep, people worldwide are suffering from diseases, lack of motivation and in extreme cases death because they are not getting the recommended amount of sleep.
The Effects of cramming for an Examination Cramming is getting more and more popular by the year. Most teenagers do not know how to manage their time and to wait until the last second to start studying. Cramming for a test will most likely hurt your grade instead of helping it. When a person is cramming for an exam the night before, they will become tired and not be able to study to their full potential. Studying for hours at night, the day before, may be the worst thing a student can due if they want to do well on their test.
Isolation and addiction occurs when children spend hours on the computer and internet, away from their family and peers. “They will often lose all track of time and will stay up all night to be at the computer with little or no sleep.” (Carter, Jerome). Isolation blocks out the development of other activities and essential skills in maturing children for the world ahead. With new types of computers on the horizon the exposure and availability is greatly increasing therefore we must take heed of this and control our usage.
This addiction make this as their routine thing in their schedule, long term gradually affecting their study and loss of concentration in the study area. There is high risk using the internet at night times rather than day time, because most of the sex-offenders spend their time during this peak time and search for the children to lure them into this abusive content. Now-a-days children are most aware about the browser history and clear them off once they finish using the internet services in the computer and parents get confused by seeing the empty log in the computer. So to get rid of such things happen to their children, parents or adolescents must supervise and monitor them in all aspects inside
Insecurity and a lack of self-confidence of one’s self is a battle that many people struggle with. With the amount of online resources and entertainment available, people are almost always on the Internet. The Internet distracts people from their real life conflicts, with information constantly added to it.
This can make them feel good about themselves. Wagner said “Studies show that 92 percent of children under age 18 play regularly” (2008). The addict spent a lot of time for their game. With most of our work being online, we are forced to use the internet. Most college students, on top of our school work, use some form of social media. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are three of the most popular sites for college students to use, and can commonly be downloaded as an app onto the person’s smart phone. The constant use not only in the classroom, but in the workplace can lead to more people facing addiction problems all over the world. Today, many people complete tasks for their job on a computer.
