There are many thoughts that goes through peoples minds and those thoughts later determine ones mines set on wither one will fail or one will succedd in life as well as in school. The way a person behaves has a positive or negative effect on their behave and there environment. There have been many theories on why ones attitude can change and be formatted. One theory that has been giving is observation learning. Social Psychology, defines observational leaning as “basic form of learning in which individuals acquire new forms of behavior as result of observing other.” When a person is observation learning they tend to form a new attitude. According to Psychologists they define attitude as “learned tendency to evaluate things in a certain way.” There are three different components that can make up a persons attitude. One being emotional, which is how a person or object can make a person feels. Two is behavioral, which people are being influenced by others or a certain thing, and last is cognitive, which is how a person thinks about things or there beliefs they have. Attitudes can also be learned in many different ways and most people’s attitude not only come from behavioral issue but personal experiences as well. As a person grows older one can form their own opinion on learning socially by “the process through which we acquire new information, forms of behavior, or attitudes from other people” (150). There are so many things changing around the world and new things popping up each day. Everything that was not popular in the early 1950’s is now popular today and it makes people look at people in a different way. That where attitudes are formed about people or things people do. Which goes along with stereotyping, Steele states that stereotyping affects minorities, which derives them from the ability to do well. When students are not being stereotype they are on the path to succeed better because people do not look at them differently. Steel states that even in low-income communities there are still African Americans reaching above average. When minorities fit in like everyone else they have a chance of achieving their educational goal. Swell also explains the era of slavery, that slaves were taught to read and write. He feels that the education gap can’t come from this but from other major problems that went on. Even though there is an education gap in the communities, if everyone comes together to support the students and help them progress will be made.
One such authority in the field, Dr. Pascal Mubenga, in his essay The Struggle of African American Students (2012), reasons that a difficult road from segregation and slavery has impacted the educational achievement of African American students. Dr. Mubenga supports his reasoning by elaborating on the disadvantages African Americans have been faced with starting centuries ago: “While immigrants were being Americanized, African, Mexican, Native, Asian, and Puerto Rican Americans were increasingly segregated or denied language and cultural rights in public schools" (Mubenga 7). The Achievement Gap in America has separated and divided America's youth into more or less, two different cultures of socioeconomic placement. The first being the predominantly Caucasian students at American elementary schools, high schools, and colleges that excel greatly in their education. Most of the time earning them middle to upper class jobs in the economy, the aforementioned group contrasts significantly with its opposite culture of American youth. The second culture, the population that is mostly made up of the minority races, takes it's place in the American education system as the population of students who are less interested in getting a decent education and taking advantage of the resources that are offered, for various underlying reasons. This in turn manufactures less people of this type of culture to be readily available for higher paying jobs, and often times unemployable for a job at all. The Achievement Gap in America is influenced by many cultural, environmental, and socioeconomic factors that separate lower and higher achieving students based on these factors, and leave a high amount of unemployed Americans as a result, if not incarcerated or deceased.
Furthermore, Chapter 15 begins to explain educational inequality. In the United States, education is available but not to every child in the same way. Different social-classes means different schools, instructions, criteria, rates, and times. In addition to class differences, races and ethnics unfortunately play a role in educational achievement. Since the majority of the black community lags behind whites in income and wealth, the educational inequalities are caused by the economic inequalities. They believe that once the inequalities disappear, the educational disparities will as well. Many argue that this is not a viable argument. They point to other minority groups such as Asians, some of whom are financially worse off than blacks, and they excel in school . ...e and prepared for college work. For a student in a black that is majority black and under resourced is highly unlikely to receive an education and graduate on time and won’t be college ready. Unfortunately this scenario happens way too often. Lots of black students do not receive the knowledge that they need to further their education in college and many students that do try to further their education do not end up finishing. Because they missed out on so much information they have a very difficult time doing their work and get the feeling that they need to drop out. It is unfortunate that today, not all students can receive a good education and have a chance a furthering their education and becoming successful. This is why it is necessary that the education system change immediately so that all students can receive an equal opportunity to further their education.
The United States places a great deal of importance on education and continuing to be a leader in the realm of education. If the United States wants to continue on this road it must take a good look at the achievement gap that has been created and growing. In a system where in high school 34% of black students are being held back, and are more likely to drop out before receiving a high school diploma it is essential to understand what has caused this gap and ways to help close it. When African Americans first came to this country becoming educated was not something they were allowed to do, they had to wait years and years to even learn how to write without there being consequences. When the opportunity did come along for African Americans to become educated and schools were created for them and by them, there have still being hurdles for them with chances of schools losing accreditation, and financial support for students. Policies, laws, and initiatives must really become priorities to help African Americans to ensure that they are allowed to succeed and achieve the same goals and lives as everyone else. Making sure there are able, understanding, and qualified teachers teaching students is also very important. Teachers play such a big role in the lives of students and helping them to succeed not primary and secondary school, but also continuing their journey’s into places of higher learning. Stereotypes are like scalp dandruff, unnecessary, ugly, and hard to get rid of, unless you have the right shampoo. That shampoo could symbolize proper education or enlightenment for getting rid of that particular stereotype. Some stereotypes are so absurd we sometimes wonder where the heck did they even originate from. For example, Asians are bad drivers, or white people cannot dance. However there is a type of stereotype that has some little truth to it, but you find it is not the people who we are stereotyping’s fault. To be more specific, there is a stereotypical view that poor minorities are sometimes considered uneducated. This lack of minorities’ education is not their fault, but the fault of unlikely outside forces. Therefore there is some truth to this particular stereotype, but the minorities are not to blame for their lack of education. Few opportunities are given to them, starting with housing then leading to schools which would then affect their individual education.
That lack and weak basis of education has not only a huge impact on black children’s future professional lives, but also an impact on their mindset and on them as growing and grown-up individuals. Since they don’t get a good education, it is more likely that they won’t succeed in high school, won’t get a good job, won’t build a successful career and won’t evolve their mindset. For many years, people have to ask themselves who they are, whether it is their culture, family, or even where they come from, their race has been put into a category, which they cannot escape. In the text Race and Ethnicity as a Source of belongingness, it states “ Our identities locate us in social spaces and tell us where we belong” (Doing Race 384), but sometimes it is forced upon people due to stereotyping other races. In the education system, there is a question where the stereotype can be seen in the education system. I big part in negative stereotyping is within education. There is a Stereotype that African Americans are not as intelligent as Whites. This was the drive for many segregated schools. African Americans have fought a long time to be equal to whites. One of these fights was the Brown vs. Bored case in 1954, where the court declared the segregation of White Schools and Black schools to be unconstitutional. After this court, case there was still a war on education, but there were school finance reforms as an effort to help this new law against segregation. In the text Understanding the Achievement Gap, it states “Gaps in school, in access to qualify teachers, and in access to higher education were smaller in the 1970s than they had been before” (Doing Race 298). This means that higher education for African Americans were very slim and there was more segregation within schools after the Brown vs. Bored

Attitudes are formed from learning. Moreover, the effects of home life, school, religious experience, and peers can help develop an individual’s attitude. An example, a child that grows up in a home where parents distrust law enforcement officials may grow up to despise police officers and other authority figures. Trustworthiness is the strongest source because just being an expert does not mean that person is truthful.
