Comparing The Importance of Being Earnest Films from 1952 and 2002
This essay is comparing the 1952 film and the 2002 film, ‘The
Importance of being Earnest’. This was first a play written in 1895,
by Oscar Wilde. This essay is going to express and show the
differences and similarities between the two films, using the play
script as a reference.
‘The Importance of being Earnest’ is about two handsome men, who go
bunburying. Bunburying is when people make things up, for their
convenience, and to get out and not be questioned. Jack and Algy do
this to be with the girls they love, the even lie about their names.
Earnest means to be truthful, to show your true feelings, and think
about the future actions, to be serious, this is why it is important
to be Earnest. But this is reverse psychology, as no one is serious in
the films.
The film ‘The Importance of being Earnest’ is a comedy or romance. The
film catches yours interest, with a good first scene. Also when Jack
and Algy pretend to be different people ‘Bunburying’, and it is hard
to keep up, this is very funny and you want to find out what will
happen. The second film starts with Algy being chased, making him seem
mysterious, and so you want to watch and find out why.
The films vary from the play, although some bits have been added in,
and taken out, to make the film shorter. In the 2002 film a lot more
new scenes have been added in. In the latest film, in 2002, Aunt
Augusta checks ‘Jacks’ name, and once again ‘Jack is not very Earnest.
The first film was a bit disappointing, due to the fact it missed out
a funny line, and said it very slowly; When Lady Bracknell is talking

...ch as; the scene on the balcony, when Jack and Algy pretended
to like each other, to cecily and the others. After strangling each
other. There are also some close ups, but not as many as in the first
film. The first film is very stationary, but obviously being filmed in
side, there was not as much space for longer shots.
In conclusion, I feel that each film was good in different ways. I
personally preferred the 2002 film, as it was ‘up-to-date’ and I could
understand more of it, and I found it rather funny. But I also like
the first film, as Edith Evans (Lady Bracknell) was very funny, and
the film had some hilarious scenes in. I think both films are worth
watching and the older version is more for adults, whereas the younger
film is more for teenagers or young adults. I would class both films,
as a ‘film to watch’.
The new scenes involved were at the barn, the hotel, the barber shop, and the train station. New people were Helen Ramirez and much more. The way they added new people enhanced the part when the clock struck twelve o’clock, and had a shot
Have you ever wondered about a “perfect” world? What if the world wasn’t so “perfect” after all? Jonas lives in a “perfect” world but wants to get out. Truman lives in a “perfect” worls also, and wants to escape too. Both doesn’t understand what is going on because there worlds control everything, but then the crushing truth comes out. You’ll now find out the simularites of the giver and the truman show.
out of the movie. He did this to shorten the movie and also to make it
West Side Story is a book about two gangs living in a large city. The Outsiders is a book with the same concept, two gangs that are archrivals. Even though two different authors wrote these books during two different time periods, they have the same story line. These books are realistic, because gang rivalry is still going on today. They are different, since they were written separately. Also, both these books have different problems between the main characters. Still, West Side Story and The Outsiders have many similarities.
The Film Editor, Oscar Webb left out some scenes and added some different ones. One of these new scenes included the visit to the planetarium. Later we saw Chocky entering Matthew’s body during a Maths class, along with other scenes in the class rooms, such as biology, not previously mentioned in the Novel. Also Matthew visited Colin’s house on numerous occasions and we saw Matthew’s Mother and Father shopping for a new car and then Matthew winning a cricket game. The editor also added more detailed facts about the holiday at the Cottage. All of these extra events added more to the Film than the original Novel.
This is done so the character development is clearly shown, the duration of the film can be limited and so the film can be kept interesting and engaging for the audience. The plot in the film is changed slightly from the novel it is based on to show the development of characters. Some settings are excluded or changed to limit the time of the movie. The character’s characteristics are slightly altered so the movie is kept interesting and engaging for the audience. By modifying these aspects of the film the producer is able to keep the audience engaged whilst showing character

...aid in the book that the maid died of exhaustion from running so it must have been a little bit larger than how the movie shot it. I pictured all of the characters differently but that is just personal opinions and everyone would have those.
The film may have edited out one of the drastic details that made the novel’s success, explaining the film’s failure.
The road movie embodies the human desire for travel and progression. The vehicle of journey is a contemporary metaphor of personal transformation that oftentimes mirrors socio-cultural desires and fears. Thomas Schatz believes that one “cannot consider either the filmmaking process or films themselves in isolation from their economic, technological, and industrial context.” This statement is especially applicable to the independent American films of the late sixties, a time of great political and social debate. Easy Rider (1969) was considered a new voice in film that was pitched against the mainstream. In the 1960s, there was a shift to highlight the outsiders or the anti-heros in film. This counter-cultural radicalism seems to have also influenced the 1991 film, Thelma & Louise. The characters of both films act as figures of anti-heroism by rebelling against the conventional and unintentionally discovering themselves at the same time. Despite their different backgrounds, the protagonists of Eas...
Firstly I would set this play in the 21st century so that a modern audience could relate to it. Algernon, one of the main characters in the play, would live in a luxury apartment in the centre of London, over looking the River Thames. His apartment would have a minimalist theme to it and would be influenced by aesthetic; for example he would have a piece of abstract art on the wall for no reason other than that he thinks it looks nice.
Dracula, the most famous vampire of all time, which readers were first introduced to by Irish author Bram Stoker in 1897 with his novel Dracula, which tells the story of the mysterious person named Count Dracula (Stoker). The book is an outstanding masterpiece of work, which is why it has been a prototype for various movie releases over the decades. Whenever a film director decides to make a movie on behalf of a novel the hope is that the characters concur from the novel to the movie, which leads to the exploration of the resemblances and modifications between the characters in Dracula the novel by Bram Stoker and Bram Stoker’s Dracula 1992 movie directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
the film have been cast as parts. It worked well for the film, but I
“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, one of the most classic books of all time, written by Washington Irving, was remade into a movie in 1999 by Director Tim Burton. Surprisingly there are many differences between the book and the movie, and little to no similarities. One of the major differences was that in the movie Tim Burton made Ichabod Crane a detective, while in the story he’s a nerdy teacher. Tim Burton did this to make the movie more interesting and for there to be a reason why Ichabod is so good at finding clues and solving the headless horseman case. Also they made Ichabod a little bit more brave in the movie so that there would be more action and drama in the movie. A total different between the story and the movie, is that they give a background of young Ichabod and his mother, but none of that was
these little details are left out in the movie. Although it doesn’t seem like a great deal, the little details do
