Introductory Paragraph: There are very few differences between the Book and the Film of To Kill A Mockingbird. But one of the few differences that you can’t miss is in the film there are several characters that were never introduced such as Mr.Dolphus Raymond, Aunt Alexandria, Uncle Jack, Miss Caroline, Cousin Francis, Miss Gates, and Aunt Rachel. Also in the film they left out some scenes such as the scene where it snows in Maycomb and Miss Maudie 's house burns down. A few similarities in both the novel and the film, first similarity is that Scout Finch is the narrator in both. Another key similarity is the story takes place in Maycomb, Alabama. Setting: In the film and the novel some key details that help establish the time and place it took place would be that there are still slaves and a lot of racism. For example Atticus has cook or a slave named Calpurnia. Also in the film you can tell it is from the mid 1900’s because there are cars shown in the film. Another thing that establishes the time it took place is the type of clothing they wore which adds to the movie because it helps to tell the time period when the movie takes place. Another way the director of the film and the author of the book showed me when a time change occurred was by the meals they were eating whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner. My last way of knowing when time changes occurred was when the kids when to school that showed me it was morning. Also words like goodnight let me know that it is night time. For Example “Come on home to dinner with us, Walter,” (Lee) (pg.25). The film was more effective showing me time changes because I can see them happening with my eyes, rather than reading words and trying to imagine
