The history of sports dates back before the discovery of America or even the birth of Jesus Christ. Sports have been in a constant evolution ever since their introduction to the world, such as Tsu’Chu to soccer or polo to water polo. Although soccer and water polo are popular in America today many athletes have come to love these two unique sports. Both sports are physically exhausting, demanding all an athlete has to offer to the game. They test the limit of the body and push it into the next level of competition. To a new comer these two vicious sports seem drastically different, but when it comes to the basics no two sports could be more alike.
Soccer is a sport widely known and loved throughout Europe, but little in the United States. It is a sport restricting players to only their feet, and zero contact with their hands. Played on grass or turf fields with two teams of eleven giving all they have for all ninety minutes of the game. Teams wear matching uniforms so they can tell who is on which team at a glance. Soccer players must also arm themselves with shin pads to protect themselves. To men and women who do not follow the sport, it may seem quiet easy, but in reality it is far from it. The use of body movements and tricky footwork are used to throw off your defender and advance your team onto the opponents side. Defenders are more than willing to throw there body at an offensive player, elbow them, or even kick at their shins just to take control of the ball. Soccer also has many restrictions and regulations to how far a player can go. A defender slide tackling an offensive player on a break away could result in a yellow card, which is considered a minor offense if the defender is only presented with the card once. But i...

... type of ruling system, along with the types of fouls that would be committed in that sport. Plus the different type of field settings stand the two sports apart by themselves, along with the amount of players that are in the game at a single time. The last difference would be that the teams not only wear different types of uniforms but also use different types of equipment within that corresponding sport.
Soccer and water polo can seem drastically different from each other when you know little about each sport itself. Although there are some drastic differences between soccer and water polo such as where it is played, or what body part it is played with. There are also similarities such as what they are played with and the amount of skills you need to be able to play each sport. Water polo and soccer are not too different from each other as people would believe.
From the United States to Hispanic countries like Spain, the countries share their love for the same sports even though they are oceans apart. While they have their similar interests, sports interests differ in each of the countries as well. Without sports in the world, our cultures we know and love would be completely different and dull. They help shape our cultures and the people within them. Sports like soccer, football, and baseball are sports that we know and love in Hispanic and American countries. We all know what they are, but the way they are played, their histories, and our passions for these sports differ and correspond.
The biggest similarity is the object of both games. To outscore the other team. The score is determined by points called goals. Ice hockey and lacrosse are contact sports. Opposing teams will try to “check” each other. This means that the teams are trying to literally knock the ball or puck out of possession of the other player. If a check becomes too violent, a penalty, which is another similarity between the two sports, will be called. Due to the aggressive nature of both sports, helmets and extensive padding are required to play without injury. Another thing they have in common is that the possession of the puck or ball is determined by a face-off. A face-off is when two opposing players battle for the puck or ball. Goalies are an essential part of both sports because the goalies are the last line of defense before the opposing team can score a goal. The goalie crease, in ice hockey as well as lacrosse, cannot be entered by any players because it gives the goalie an interference-free zone. Any goal scored by a team that is made from the goalie crease will not be counted. A final similarity would be that both sports have professional leagues. Ice hockey’s league is bigger than lacrosse, but they are both just as competitive.
The rules of these similar yet vastly different games are extremely complex, so only the basics are necessary to distinguish the better sport. In football, the primary rule is that you must advance the ball forward by throwing it or running with it. Once a player with the ball is downed, the entire team lines up again, and the ball is snapped to the quarterback. The short pause in-between each down may not seem significant, but it definitely takes its toll on the excitement.
As you can see there are many differences and similarities within two sports. For example, one has contact and the other does not have any contact. Also, the equipment is a lot stricter than the other. Last, both sports are just for families to connect and to have fun with each
In today’s world, the benefits of sports are huge. Sports are a way of teaching key skills that parents can’t such as sportsmanship, social values and many more. One of the most popular sports all over the world is soccer; hence soccer is the first sport that many children play and later on love. Within the past couple years, controversies have arisen over whether or not children should be heading the soccer ball while playing. For example, a header in soccer is when the player redirects the ball with their forehead, by taking it out of the air, to pass, or to shoot. With all the concussion prevention and media that has been centered on the NFL recently, the spotlight has turned over to soccer.
“Do you play baseball?” “Baseball and softball are the same sport.” These are two of the worst things that you could ever say or ask a softball player. That is like say that ping pong and tennis are the say thing. Yes, they may have some similarities but they have enough differences to make them different. They are a few major difference that anyone can notice but there are also a few hidden rules that no one really knows about unless you actually play the sport or know the games really well.
Both sports have similarities such as, they both have coaches, a referees, assistant referees/lines men. They both contact sports, each team has 11 players, they both outdoor sports played on a rectangular field on grass, each team has to pass the ball towards the opposite direct till a goal is scored and there are no limit to goals. Last but not the least both sports have offensive, defensive and goalkeeper.
In conclusion, football and soccer have their similarities, but these similarities are superficial. There are many fundamental differences, such as the use of one’s hands being illegal in soccer, except for the goalie when he/she is inside his/her respective eighteen-yard boundary. Another example is the alternation of a team’s offense and defense in football as opposed to the simultaneous effort of the offense and defense in soccer. These differences in rules, rituals, and concepts distinguish these two sports from each other. However, there are similarities, such as the fact that both sports allow eleven players on each team to play on the field at a time. Also, the area where one scores is in the same locations in both sports, the end zones of football and the goals of soccer are on opposite sides of the field.
In the 19th century, soccer started to come to life in America. Some colleges started to play the game in the 1820s, with the first contest taking place at Harvard in 1827. Then, a huge invention took place in 1855. That year, the Charles Goodyear soccer ball was invented. Charles Goodyear created these soccer balls with vulcanized rubber. 12 years later in 1867, soccer took two huge steps. The first standardized soccer rules were published that year. Now, graduates from different schools could play together and had proper rules to follow when playing a game. But later that year, another just as, if not mor...
Soccer and lacrosse are obviously two different sports , but in a way they are both very similar to each other. Similarly, they both use a ball for their main part of the game. They use the ball to bring it down the field and a try to score on the opposing team. Another similarity is that they both have goalkeepers to help protect the ball from not going in on the team's side. They both stand in their goal box and they are able to bring it down field if they want. In addition, they use nets on the back of the goalkeepers with bars that show how big the goal is and so the ball doesn't fly out of the field when the team scores.Another example of a similarity between soccer and lacrosse is that they both involve a lot of running. For both sports midfield is the position where you have to run

Soccer is a sport that is all about motion and how to use movements most effectively. Speed and velocity are very important when it comes to motion because with out them there would be no motion. When playing soccer speed is essential to being a productive player. The game is fast paced and so the players must also be quick on their feet. Soccer players may not know that velocity is essential to being able to control their movements. But physics proves that both are essential to soccer. Speed and direction are b...
Soccer has proven to be a notable sport throughout the years starting with its unique history. Soccer began all over the world tracing back thousands of years. The Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Ancient Greek, Persian, Vikings, as well as other nationalities all played a form of the game soccer. In China and Rome, games that were similar to soccer were played around 200 B.C. (Helmer and Owens, 5). People believe that soccer started more than a thousand years ago when villagers killed attacking pirates by cutting off their heads and kicking them around (Helmer and Owens, 5). As time went on, people in Europe also played a game similar to soccer during Medieval Times. In fact, soccer was used to prepare warriors for battles in Ancient Greece and Rome (Dilov-Shultheis). In later history, the English called the game “Football” because soccer was played by kicking the ball with the foot (Helmer and Owens, 6). The name “soccer” came to be when the American’s Association Football was shortened to assoc., and later to soc. Eventually in 1895 it was called soccer (Helmer and Owens, 9). By the late 1700s and 1800s, soccer was played in many universities, but the rules were not ...
Sports may have impacted our culture much more then we thought it would, and keeps impacting. Sports have affected some of the most important aspects of life, such as jobs and money. It has also affected things as little as who we look up to and how we dress. Culture means “the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.” The definition of sports is “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” So when we put two and two together we get a a nation or world that has changed due to sports. Back in the mid and late 1900’s sports were used to see whose way of life was better. As time went on and keeps going on, we
