Celebrity status is a big part of today’s culture, as well as in the 1960s. The astronauts have their similarities and differences to today’s celebrity show culture. The astronauts and their wives, in the book The Astronaut Wives Club, and the reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, are similar how the media portrays their trendsetter and role model status; however, the worthiness of their popularity differs.
The media portrayal of the Kardashians and the Astronauts wives are similar in their appearance on news outlets. For the Kardashians, they greatly appeal to younger generations and many people go to them for makeup and clothing tips or even advice about life in general. The three sisters have their own apps were they cover vast information about their life. For example, Kourtney often posts about different workouts and offers advice about kids. On the other hand, the astronauts had the perfect families and their wives were stay at home mothers, who were seen as role models to other mothers or people that aspired to have this. Many people believe that the Kardashian do not deserve to be famous and there is nothing for them to be famous for. Critics have said that they are “famous for being famous.” The Kardashians originally got famous because of their father, who was a lawyer and the defendant of OJ Simpson. Their TV show includes drama, for example, on an episode in season one, Kris throws Kim’s phone and Kim decides to throw Kris’s phone because it is “what she deserves.” The show doesn’t have any real worth other than to provide entertainment for people. In comparison, the astronauts wives had to deal with real hard situations involving their husbands and having to worry about them every time they went to work. The wives would have to watch the space flights and wait until it was over to see if their husbands survive. The wives always had to deal with the anxiety they have and pain if their husbands didn’t come back. Most wives would have nightmares about this moment and they would have to be the ones to tell their children that their dad isn’t coming home. This makes the astronaut wives worthy of their popularity because they had a lot to deal with and many people were interested in the space
