Which is more important, freedom, or loyalty? The play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, includes a scene closely following the death of Caesar. In this scene, two rival characters, Brutus and Mark Antony, give very different speeches to the public. However, there are a few similarities between Brutus's speech and Antony's. The two speeches begin similarly in that they explain the view of the speaker, while not condemning the speaker's rival. Brutus speaks first, and he begins his speech by showing his respect for those who may feel loyal to Caesar, informing them that Caesar was Brutus's closest friend.
