A Raisin in the Sun and Of Mice and Men Essay Dreams can either save or destroy a person. Everyone has dreams or ambitions they strive for and everyone gets either negatively or positively affected by their choices following this dream. People who get negatively affected as shown in Of Mice and Men usually either share their dream with too many people, people can hurt others in a way of trying to accomplish the dream and also people make their dreams a little too big. Dreams can also have a positive effect of people as shown in A Raisin in the Sun. This positive effect could be standing up for your people, moving up in society or even owning a house. There dream was to finally move up in the world and be more successful as a certain group of people. After trying relentlessly to accomplish this they found out that to reach the dream they were aspiring for they must work as a family not as individuals. Mama arguably the main protagonist in this story is bring home a ten thousand dollar check for life insurance from her husband. This money drives the family crazy and with their mind set still individualized people start getting selfish. Walter, Mama’s son has the idea of investing the money into a liquor store and looses a lot of money. Mama eventually buys Travis a house for the family to live in, Travis being Mama’s grandson, this sparked the family to start thinking less of themselves but for the family as a whole. After a few days a man from the communities welcoming center came to offer them a deal to sell the house and make a profit. This symbolizes their dream trying to be bought with money. The family now had the choice whether to follow their dreams or abandon them. Obviously they had not given up on their dreams and thanks to Mama the family started looking out for each other which was the most important thing for the

Dreams deferred usually end up being diminished from existence. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck the characters dreams, which are put on, hold all get destroyed. Lennie's dream was to live on the land in which he owned and to tend the rabbits (pg.14). He finally was almost about to achieve his dream in a month but after working in a ranch for a few days he killed Curly's wife by accident (pg.94) so he dies and also loses all his dreams so his dreams are pessimistic. Also with Lennie's dream being destroyed also George's dream was which was also to live on a ranch so (pg.7). This happens because he can't make his dream reality without Lennie showing pessimistic out view on dreams. Dreams only can bring you so far it all depends on what your destiny is. This is because even though Lennie and George's dreams were crushed even though they tried there hardest to reach them also Candy, Crooks and Curly's wife dreams were ruined too.

On the lips of my children. You what supposed to be my beginning again. You what supposed to be my harvest” (Hansberry 134). She begins to see the harsh effects of what her American dream has done to her children. Mama goes through trials and tribulations to provide a good lifestyle for her children, but neither of them seem satisfied, they both want to accomplish their dreams and aspirations so badly that it blinds them to the reality of what is really important in life.
In today's curriculum teachers are expected to cover a large area of content in a short amount of time. In that short amount of time it is vital students receive the best learning experience. In class both the movie, A Raisin in the sun, and the play were shown and read to students. The play is a drama written by Lorraine Hansberry. The movie is directed by Kenny Leon and produced by Bad Boy Films. The play and movie feature an African American family in the south side of Chicago in the 1950s. The family consists of: Walter, Mama, Beneatha, Travis, and Ruth. They have many dreams. Some of those dreams become true while others do not. Although there are some similarities and differences between the play and the movie, the differences far outweigh the similarities. It is essential that teachers show both the play and movie to the students to provide a better understanding of the content.
Do not let dreams be dreams; they are more than figments of imagination. At the beginning of A Raisin in the Sun, Mama receives a check, and all of the Youngers have different ideas on what they want to do with it, and how they want to use it to pursue their dreams, but Mama uses it to buy a house. In the middle, Walter receives the rest of the money for him and Beneatha to share, but he keeps all of it to invest in the liquor store but gets stolen by his companion, which now affects the whole family and their future. In the end, Walter realizes his true dream to make his family’s future better. Mama’s dreams were first deferred when she moved into the small apartment that the Youngers family stay in through out most of the play. She became too busy that she couldn’t accomplish her dream. She also could not for fill her dreams since she did not have enough money to do so. Her dreams were even more shattered with the death of her husband, but when she got the money from her husband’s death her dreams then became a reality again. Mama wants Travis to be happy and play in the garden but she cannot do this since they live in a dirty ghetto.
The conflict that involves Walter and Mama superficially concerns Mama's receiving an insurance check for ten thousand dollars, which she hasn't yet decided what to do with. Walter has hopes for using the money to invest in a liquor store, with the profits providing him and his family a better quality of life than what they have endured in the past. What really is at stake here, though, is more than money. Mama and Walter have different visions of what happiness is and what life is all about. Dreams are what make life tolerable and what makes one stronger through the tough times. Throughout one's life, there will be certain individuals that doubt another’s ability to achieve their dream because they have lost hope in themselves. It is so easy for people to fall into a hole of misery that is so deep and painful, that they will never gain the strength to pull themselves out. An individual should never be pushed by their problems but be led by their dreams. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, clearly demonstrates the importance of dreams to living a fulfilled life. This can be shown through the experiences of the characters George and Lennie, Crooks, and through Curley's Wife.
Dreams are very important for everyone including the characters from the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The main characters George and Lennie have a dream about buying a piece of land and farming there. Another character who has a dream is Curley's wife who wants to be famous and get attention. The last character with a dream is Crooks who wants to be treated equally. Dreams are the reasons people and the characters from Of Mice and Men work hard and long.
The actions that a person can get away with are determined by their social status. When the Younger family is going to move to the home, they are visited by Carl Lindner who is trying to dissuade them moving to the home. He says to them “ I am sure you people must be aware of some of the incidents which have happened in various parts of the city when colored people have moved into certain areas” (Hansberry 552). A Raisin in the Sun shows the life of an ordinary African-American family who dreams of happiness and their desire to achieve their dream.

What are dreams? Are they simply random brain activity, or are they our mind trying to tell us something? Dreams represent many different areas of one’s life in physical, emotional, and mental ways. “When we sleep we do much more than just rest our weary bones; we tap into our subconscious mind (Ullman and Zimmerman 1979). The subconscious has much to offer about oneself. “The average human being spends one third of their life in sleep and during each sleep approximately two hours is spent dreaming“(Ullman and Zimmerman 1979). These dreams are important because they are the voice of our subconscious. Dreams can relay to people facts about their lives that they are not even aware of. There are also many ways that dreams can help cure different physical, emotional, and mental problems in one’s life. I will look at dreams, their meanings, and possible ways of interpreting them using such methods as hypnotherapy and psychoanalysis.
