The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Stevenson is a mystery novel about the duality of man and the neutrality of having two personalities. Double Identity by Margaret Peterson Haddix is also a mystery novel about a clone created to fulfill someone’s needs and wants. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Double Identity hold many similarities such as creating another being to meet ones wants or needs but also hold some differences. Hyde is not another person, just Jekyll in a different form. Bethany, the main character of Double Identity, is a living breathing copy of Elizabeth. Although these two books were written many years apart, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde hold a few similarities. In both novels, characters were created to make someone happy. Jekyll created Hyde so he could maintain his strong Victorian reputation while fulfilling his deep desires to be evil. Hyde was created to keep Jekyll sane and happy.
