Response Paper 1 The Federalist Papers were written to support the ratification of the constitution. Many people were fearful of a national government because they did not want it to become like the British rule on them. The Federalist Papers help defend the constitution. There were different views on what should happen in a national government. The two main views of these papers were from Federalists and Anti-Federalists. Do the decisions from back then still fit the best now? Federalists preferred a stronger national government. Their view was that only the elite were able to understand and carry out governing a nation. There was also fear that the central national government would not be strong enough and there would be too much democracy. James Madison was Federalist, as well as his Alexander Hamilton and George Washington. Anti-Federalists were focused on keeping the rights within the states. These people tended to be the average people and they wanted to keep the power as close to the individual people as possible. …show more content…

Madison saw that groups were created, factions, which had a similar economic status. His belief was that whichever faction you were in mean that you would have the same view as the other people in the group. One of the fears of this set up was that one faction would become the majority and suppress the minority. I think that eliminating the causes of factions would help more than trying to control the effect of them. Is it possible to stop factions too soon, while they are still doing good things? The government and public would have to be careful not to control the factions to much. Madison wanted the factions to be somewhat controlled so things like Shay’s Rebellion did not happen and get out of hand. A major reason for wanting to maintain the factions is so that the group do not become too powerful that the individuals do not get represented
