Technology in the classroom has become a greatly debated topic. With the introduction of e-textbooks and tablets, some schools have inspired a new excitement to learn by the use of tablets in the classroom. The use of tablets in classrooms is not only sparking excitement, it is a more effective way to teach students. Nearpod is a free app for teachers to use with their students. The app provides interactive learning for students, while still keeping the teacher the controller of the presentation. Thus there is no fear of losing control. Nearpod can be on each student’s device, but the lesson is still planned and synchronized by the teacher. Educators can use Nearpod for a variety of things including videos, slideshows, quizzes, and even pole questions (Delacruz 64). Another benefit of teachers using Nearpod is that the grading is done for them (Delacruz 68). The app quickly grades assignments and teachers are given immediate feedback. Nearpod also allows students to see their results from guided reading through pole questions or quizzes.The app significantly helps students who are learning the English language through this type of guided reading (Delacruz 65). Students prefer Nearpod over regular books when engaged in guided reading. Elementary school students in the South Eastern part in the United States used Nearpod in their classroom. The students were preschool aged through sixth grade and prefered the Nearpod app over textbooks (Delacruz 67).
