Christianity expanded throughout the western world at the end of the Roman empire appealing to slaves, the poor, and women. A man born named Jesus Christ from Jerusalem, Israel, preached the word of God gains followers which threatened the Roman Empire. This led him to be crucified under the local government. After his death, Paul, an apostle, set the foundation of the Church, which would influence the western world greatly throughout history. Another prophet named Muhammad also gained followers through his visions of God in the East. This led to mass expansion, which the world had never seen before. After being banished from Mecca, Muhammad and his followers settled in Medina building a new city. This led to a new religion forming called …show more content…

This is seen also through the follower’s way of life which is heavily based on their religion. In Augustine’s sermon, he discusses the words ‘charity’ and ‘greed’ and uses them in context to an individual’s lifestyle. For many live in greed which he refers to as “a desire to sin” while he refers to charity as “the love of living virtuously”. He continues and says that love is what makes people either evil because of greed or charitable because of the love of good. This goes back to ideologies of good and evil expressed in the scriptures of both religions. However, he goes further and describes the love of God is; for loving God is what humans should do, however, many are blinded by tangible objects like money over God. In Al-kindi’s “On first Philosophy” he emphasizes the importance of knowledge but in the context of God. He also refers to those who oppose knowledge saying “For one who trades in something sells it, and he who sells something does not have it. Thus, one who trades in religion does not have religion, and it is right that one who resists the acquisition of knowledge of the real nature of things and calls it unbelief be devised of religion.” Following thus religion is a way of life which both Al-kindi and Augustine explain in their texts. Both Islam and Christianity have similar philosophical ideas such as the consequence of not following God. They both were important figures in the philosophical side of their religions.
In conclusion, Islam and Christianity are more similar than different because they a strong devotion to one God, philosophies and had similar ideologies. While they did develop and expanded differently through the religious scriptures of both religions carried out similar beliefs and ideologies.
