All novels and movies have heroes who struggle to save the day. No hero can go through their journey alone, however. Heroes and sidekicks appear in multiple stories, novels, and movies and are responsible for having each other’s backs in resolving the conflict of the plot. Heroes and sidekicks are seen throughout the world in fiction and nonfiction, and they are viewed as the people who go through a crazy journey, but end up saving the day. In the beginning, heroes and sidekicks strive together because of their polarizing personalities and their disagreements. Towards the end of plots, heroes and sidekicks come back to each other because they realize that their best friends were the ones who they split off from. Superman and Captain America are a glimpse of the fictional characters society titles a hero. Firefighters and Military portray heroism each day in the lives of every civilian. Ponyboy is the younger brother of everyone in the gang but that does not that mean he cannot be heroic. Ponyboy and Johnny risked their life to save the kids life in the abandoned church. This does not only show heroism, but it also shows their friendship with each other. In my opinion Johnny and Ponyboy are the most heroic when they are together. Another example of this is when they two tell Dally to get away from the girls and sat beside them to protect them. Dally was harassing the girls and it took courage to tell Dally, of all people, to do something. Ponyboy also took Cherry to get popcorn while everyone stared at him. A hero is someone who is admired for his/her courage and his/her need to help others. Some examples of heroes are Spiderman, Superman, Ironman, Superwoman, and Batman. However, the real heroes are strangers that risk their lives to help others. The book, The Outsiders, shows several heroes that sacrifice their own safety for the greater good. This book centers around the gang, greasers, and the feud between the greasers and Socs. Three characters that show enormous courage and save multiple lives are Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally. In S.E Hinton’s The Outsiders, Johnny, Ponyboy, Dally emerge as heroes because they all risk their lives for another.
Composite Heroes are defined by Robert Ray as a hero shown to be a combination of both categories of heroes. When the audience is first introduced to Batman, he is introduced along with his faithful sidekick, Robin. This is an example of Batman being able to work well along with a sidekick, which is a quality of an Official Hero. However, soon after this scene, we are shown that Batman does not work well with the authorities, as the authorities do not know anything about the identity of the two heroes. The authorities also seems to be annoyed by Batman’s existence. The fact that Batman is not working well with the authorities is an example of Batman having some Outlaw Hero qualities. Another example of Batman having Official Hero qualities is that his alter-ego, Bruce Wayne works well with the authorities. In one scene, the audience learns that Bruce Wayne is working for the government in trying to figure out some information about Dr. Daka. Since Bruce Wayne is Batman and is working for the authorities, this is an example of Batman having Official Hero qualities. Later in the film, when Batman captures Dr. Daka with the help of Robin, Batman decides that he will make Dr. Daka un-brainwash people Dr. Daka has brainwashed. He chooses Linda Page to be un-brainwashed first, which shows some selfishness. Selfishness is a quality of an Outlaw Hero. Soon after this scene, when Batman and Robin confronts Dr. Daka, Robin accidentally presses a button that ends up killing Dr. Daka. Batman tries to hide this fact when the police shows up, proving another Outlaw Hero qualities since he is lying to the authorities. For example, many fairy tales and comic stories show kids the kinds of behaviors that need in order to succeed in life, to improve society, and to overcome hard times.
