Showdown of the Sharks
1975 Jaws vs. 1999 Deep Blue Sea
Although both movies are structured around the destruction and killing of a huge Great White shark. Tooth by tooth just like all the different teeth in a sharks mouth, Jaws (1975) and Deep Blue Sea (1999) have many differences. The movies differ greatly just by the time period they were created in. Jaws and Deep Blue Sea were both huge movies of the year they were released, but Jaws continues to be a popular movie. Jaws being one of the greatest Speilberg horror creations of all time, that would forever leave everyone with an eerie feeling as they entered the water. Deep Blue Sea was not nearly as popular as Jaws, but was created differently

Brody, the town police chief, was straightforward, and pursued to make sure he was heard especially by the town mayor. As the shark attacks began to happen, Brody becomes more and more concerned with the issue. He becomes paranoid as the shark strikes close to his son, Michael, and gets wrapped up in the idea of finding and killing this huge predator to protect his family and secure the waters for the safety of the island. Brody also has a fear of water, but in the movie he overcomes, showing his concern and persistence to get rid of this threat. Hooper is another character involved in Jaws. Hooper is a Marine Biologist who just happens to be visiting the island at this time of action. He finds out about the shark attacks and becomes very interested in finding this shark. Hooper was not taken seriously at first, but after he cut a shark open on the dock to display that it was not “the” shark, Brody realized his knowledge of the species would be useful. Quint is the third main character involved in the film. Quint is a very crude, seasoned shark hunter who is the captain of the Orca. Quint made a dramatic …show more content…
The plot is a major difference setting these two movies apart. Jaws starts off the movie with two teenagers rushing down the beach towards the dark water to go for a little skinny dipping, night swim. When the guy passes out on the beach taking his clothes off it leaves the girl out in the water all alone. The shark strikes dragging her around and then underneath the dark blanket of the water surface, not to return. The girl’s hand is then found washed up on the beach the next day with a pile of crabs feasting off of it. It was a hot, dry summer on Amity Island during the fourth of July week, a small community, whose main revenue comes from its beaches. When the new Chief of Police, Martin Brody discovers the remains of a shark attack victim, his first instinct is to close the beaches to swimmers and boaters. However, this does not go over well with the mayor and the town committee. Chief Brody is angered and disappointed when a young boy is killed by the predator that very same weekend. The dead boy's mother puts out a bounty on the shark, and the waters of Amity are soon overloaded with amateur shark hunters and fisherman hoping to win the reward. A local fisherman with a lot of experience hunting sharks, Quint, offers to hunt down the creature for $10,000. Soon Quint, Brody and Hooper, a visitor from the Oceanographic Institute, depart the island and head offshore to begin hunting the Great White shark. As the three men
Jaws is a 1975 thriller that was directed by Steven Spielberg and is also based on a 1974 nook with the same name. The film is about a great white shark attacking Amity Island which is obviously not real but a fictional resort.
These differences are here so that the film is more understandable for the audience it is aimed at, if the film showed what actually happened, it would be a lot more gruesome, and would have probably have been rated 15 by the BBFC. To conclude, both media portray the same story, but they are aimed at different audiences, if you are looking for all of the information about Pocahontas, the literature is what you need, if you want an entertaining movie, watch the film.
The main ideas of both of the movies is to win the heart of a Jane Doe— beautiful, seemingly impossible to reel in. Big Fish seriously takes the bait in that one.
‘Jaws’ a thriller based on the novel by Peter Benchley, the film was directed by Steven Spielberg. In a beach resort of Amity Island, a young girl named Chrissie is the first victim of the shark’s vicious attack, when it strikes for the second time, the police refuse to put out warning about the shark. It then returns and kills again, the mayor orders the local fishermen to catch the great white shark before it kills even more victims. The fishermen are satisfied when they catch a Tiger shark the mayor reopens the beaches despite the warning from the ichthyologist when he suspects it was from a formidable great white shark. Brody and Hooper and the only fisherman willing to join them to catch the great white set out in the fisherman’s boat only coming face to teeth with the enemy. This film is rated as a 15, and has a running-time of 124 minutes. It was made in the USA, the soundtrack to ‘Jaws’ was a famous two-note piece composed by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák.
Steven Spielberg’s Jaws was a branch off the novel Jaws written by Peter Benchley . The Novel was written in 1974 receiving a best sellers award and therefore setting up for a movie just one year later in 1975, which soon invented the phrase “blockbuster”which simply is to gross over 100 million dollars. Since this was a highly publicized and successful novel Steven Spielberg was held to a high expectation for this movie to be an ultimate hit. The book and the movie have a lot of differences. The book gives you an all around synopsis on every character while the Movie gives you a breath description on what the character was about and more emphasis on the shark.
The classic 1975 film, Jaws, takes place in a coastal New England tourist town. After a young woman is killed by a shark the police chief and the mayor have differing opinion on what to do about the shark. The police chief, Martin Brody, wants to close the beaches while the mayor, Larry Vaughn, does not want to lose any tourist revenue and overrules him. After another shark attack a bounty is put out for the shark. While a shark is caught it is not the one who has been terrorizing the community. However, the beaches open once again and there is another attack. Brody, along with oceanographer Matt Hooper and local fisherman Quint set out to find the shark.
The movie and the story had some of the same characters but some weren't exactly the same. The movie introduced many different characters and changed some of the others. For example, the movie had the plant lady and had the mentor of Anderton as the founders of Precrime while in the book, Anderton was the only founder of Precrime. Also, Witwer wasn't blond he had black hair and Kapler wasn't named Kapler he was named Crow. In the story they had the red head Fleming who did not exist
Both film and book are very popular when they were published ,and still interesting today their story forces you to go on and makes you never to stop. In the story Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell a renowned Huntsman falls off a yacht and finds out what it's like to be hunted. Also in the film High Noon made by Carl Foreman a marshal try's to protect his town from a gang of criminals. Both of these have similarities and differences on certain things such a settings, characters, as well as themes. There is many examples to what these stories both have in common or are different in.
...tail. Also, many camera angles that exploit the atmosphere of sexuality make these films very similar in the eyes of a regular viewer. Both movies allow the viewer to experience how life is much tougher under social pressures from the point of view of many characters. Not only do these movies focus on small details in various scenes, they show the complexity of making movies while incorporating a unique story line and keeping the viewer involved with each and every characters problems.
key players of the film named Shawn Heinrichs works for Wild Aid as a marine conservationist. He states that “no other species illustrates what’s going on in the ocean better than sharks” which is significant because they predate dinosaurs and have survived four mass extinctions. However, humans have succeeded in cutting down their numbers by 90% within the Anthropocene (Racing Extinction, 2015). Isla Mujeres was the largest shark fishing island on the east coast of Mexico where at least 20 long liners were targeting sharks every day. The film discusses how this town was successfully converted from a hunting ground to one of the best places in the world for tourists to watch sharks. The community of ex-fisherman made significantly more money
...whether or not they should enter into water the next time. His techniques are done in memorable ways that allow for the audience to be “haunted”, in a sense. This film is arguably one of the most influential thrillers ever made. It sets the standards for movies to come. It created a building block of technique uses that was not previously displayed throughout films. It surely set the standards by which others are measured. Spielberg changed the way movies were made and marketed. Just like a good joke, timing is crucial. Spielberg’s timing through a mixture of horror and comedy created amazing effects in this film. The special effects are properly balanced between the story and character, which is extremely important and done gracefully. Holistically, Jaws succeeds on almost every level. It is fearful without being outlandish, and incredible without being improbable.
A Film Review on Jaws [IMAGE]"Jaws (Style A)" Movie PosterBased on the novel by Peter Benchley, the film sees New York cop, Martin Brody (played by Schneider is investigating a series of deaths that bear all the blame. evidence of a shark attack. Jaws will forever be a thrilling ride through the annuls of time. Whether you are watching for the first or fiftieth time, when the shark comes up from the deep dark bottom of the sea, that little chill down your spine will follow. If it weren’t for the book, the move would not have been created and the world would have missed out a spectacular and terrifying journey. However, this is one of the only times it can be said, the movie exceeded the book in every
Throughout the history of modern cinema, we as a people have seen various films that have caused fear, hope, laughter, love, and various other emotions. The movie Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, was a very well-written film, but the insignificant parts made me lose focus on what was occurring. I thought this movie lacked in a few fields such as special effects, acting and background illuminations. However, the special effects were well-organized for being created in 1975. Overall, I did not enjoy Jaws because of the talent the actors displayed and the organization of the scenes.
The first major difference I noticed was in the cinematography. In the original, Jewison used techniques that were new to the industry at the time. He used a split screen technique to enhance the action scenes by allowing for more than one point of view, giving the movie more suspense. However, in the remake, McTiernan chose not to use this technique or even any other that is newer to film making. Mctiernan's makes it easier for the viewer to follow the plot and focus in on what is going on in the movie. In doing this, the remake loses some of the intensity in it's action and suspense scenes.
