I bet you didn 't know that the first cars made were all mostly electric. But as time passed gas powered cars became more popular through the years. There were few if any electric cars available as timed moved on. Everyone believed that gas powered vehicles were more convenient than the electric powered ones. I believe that gas powered vehicles are better because gas powered cars have more function ability. The range that electric vehicles have is poor compared to gas vehicles. Electric vehicles don 't function very well when the weather is cold. You 'll need to charge your car pretty much every night. You are only going to be able to go 80 mph. If you go up a big hill your range goes down. electric vehicles (rather ev 's) do pollute but they …show more content…
Cold weather hurts EV battery performance. When the outside heat falls below freezing, usable range drops to 20 miles or less making the EV practically unusable in cold weather climates (Peters, 3). We live in Alaska so the winters here are pretty much freezing or below so an EV here probably wouldn 't be good in the wintertime. Also in the cold weather it makes the charging time a lot longer than it would 've been if it were warm out. Cold weather hurts the amount of time that you would need to charge your battery …show more content…
I don 't know about you, but to me that is a lot of money. Most people would probably not want to buy a factory made EV, but if you really did want a EV then you could have a donor car, maybe a car that has it 's engine is thrashed, be converted into an electric powered car. There are two different ways of doing this. One was is to buy a conversion kit that fits with the car that you wish to convert. The other was is to have an expert convert it for you. If you choose to have someone do a conversion for you the price runs from $15,000 and up, depending on the kit used. When having someone else do the conversion the price is so high because the cost includes the batteries, donor car and components and labor (What is an Ev). I don 't know about you but you could pretty much buy a really nice used car for that same amount. I think that it is a little extreme just because it supposedly is better and easier to use than gas cars. If you need to replace the battery pack that is going to cost you around $1,000-1,200 and you 'll need to replace the battery every 3 years(What is an Ev). Again I think that it is pretty extreme just to replace the
...about 300 miles (compared to the 70 miles of the first-generation EV1) . Environmentally, US air quality is worse than it was 20 years ago, and consumers have begun to notice. This will likely contribute to an increased demand for zero- and low-emissions vehicles. Legislation has once again been introduced providing tax incentives, rebates, and even free parking for purchasers of hybrid and electric vehicles. By 2005, over 200,000 hybrid vehicle rebates were cashed in the US, and this number continues to rise .
A Car is a product that people use for transportation from place to another. First, people innovated a steam powered car. By the time, people started to use different fuels to power the cars. For example, people used hydrogen, petrol, and gasoline to power their cars. Nowadays, most people use cars that are powered by petrol or gasoline, even though it affects the environment and create pollution. Moreover, people have invented electric vehicles, which are powered by electricity. This means that people need to recharge the car between time to time using electricity. As a result, some people think that electric cars might not cause any harm to the environment; on the other hand, some might think that it might cause some environmental harm, but
According to Cars Direct website, hybrid cars can reach 51 MPG wish destroy all gasoline and diesel efficiency expectations. This high efficiency yield to two main reasons: hybrid car tend to be lightweight, and the cooperating between the gasoline engine and the electric motor. ” According to consumer reports tests, most hybrid cars have better fuel economy than their gas-only counterparts “ (Barett, “The Difference Between Gas and Hybrid Vehicles”). This is obvious if we compare between a hybrid and gasoline cars which have the same name: the hybrid Honda civic average efficiency is 40 MPG while the standard Honda civic average efficiency is 29 MPG, the hybrid Hyundai sonata average efficiency is 33 MPG while the standard Hyundai sonata average efficiency is 27 MPG, and the hybrid Ford fusion average efficiency is 34 MPG while the standard Ford fusion average efficiency is 24 MPG (Barett) [average efficiency is the average between the car efficiency in city and its efficiency in highway
Did you know that you can receive a maximum of a $7,500 tax credit for just owning an electric or hybrid vehicle? The United States government values citizens that buy fuel efficient vehicles because it gets the United States one step closer to not buying outsourced oil (Jones par.14). Hybrid vehicles are vehicles that are mostly powered by gasoline, but switch over to electric at stop signs or at coasting speeds. Electric cars are cars that are solely powered by electric from start up to shut down (Motavalli par. 6). Most cars and trucks on the road today are powered by gasoline or diesel engines, which are expensive to operate, bad for the environment, and use resources that are non renewable. To achieve better fuel economy, lower operation cost, reduce the pollution on the environment, and operate vehicles with renewable resources, this world needs to take a better look at using alternative fuels to power vehicles. Alternative fuels for motor vehicles are better for the environment, are renewable resource, and are cheaper for consumers.
Car enthusiasts are constantly debating about what a good car consists of and what is best for the environment. Some people say that electric is the future because it saves money
Four decades ago gas was on the double digits. Well now you don't have to worry about buying gas , With an electrical vehicle. The first electric car was operated in the 80s. Electrical car were popular in the late 19th century and the early 20th century, until advances in the internal combustion engine technology mass production was cheaper, Than gasoline vehicles led to the decline in the use of electric drive vehicles, The energy crisis of the 1970s and 1980s a short-lived interested in electric cars, although these cars did not reach the mass marketing stage, as in the case of 21 century. Electrical vehicle are the best vehicles on the market because they are the most reliable vehicle out their, One of the reason why is the most reliable is because they give more mileage than a regular gas power vehicle would give. Another reason why electric vehicle is because they are easier to maintain, The reason why they are easier to maintain is because they don't require as much thing as a gas power vehicle does. Last but not least the last reason why electric vehicles are the best on the market is because they are environmentally sound, The reason why they help the environment is because they help eliminate carbon dioxide produce by gas power vehicles which makes it harder for the sun radiation to come out. Electrical vehicles are the best on the market , their reliability , The maintenance free capability and being able to go green, Makes the electrical a paramount in human society. What actually makes the reliability of an electric car is the cheaper because of the fewer less parts its has , Another thing is that their cheapness on maintenance is incredible because when you take it to a mechanic you will not be end up paying a bunch...
Gas prices raise and lower in very fast rates every month. According to a 2012 report by The Huffington Post, the average human will spend two thousand dollars to fill up their tank every year. Electric cars will turn that statistic into zero dollars a year for certain people that have made the switch. According to Mary Kathryn Campbell, “The average cost of electricity in the US is 12 cents per kWh. Therefore, the average person driving an average EV 15,000 miles per year pay about $540.00 per year to charge it.” (Plug in America, Campbell). Electric cars will save the average person around one thousand four hundred and sixty dollars a year. Although switching to an electric car is very good for your pocket, you will still have to spend a lot of money on the maintenance and electricity the car needs. Drivers will have to buy things like home charging stations, which range from five thousand to one thousand dollars. It is also a challenge to calculate how much money is spent on electricity a year. As Brad Berman, of PlugInCars.com states, the actual cost for a kWh varies widely across the U.S., and can swing wildly even within a location based on utility rate plans, season, tiers, time-of-use programs and home solar. Forecasting actual EV fuels costs is a tough challenge.” (Plugin Cars, Berman). Switching to electric cars will save you a lot of money on gas, but you will also have to worry about other things like maintenance and charging
The chief disadvantage of EV's is that they usually can travel no more than 100 miles before their batteries must be charged (Harverdink, 1). While on the other side I only need to fill up the gas tank every 200 miles. Now, if you've ever been to Sitka, Alaska then of course you realize that from one end of the island to the next it is only about 14 miles, which is just the main road. There are all sorts of smaller roads that lead to more houses and stores. Being a teenager like myself, in a small town all that you can do is cruise around to kill some time. My boyfriend and I pretty much drive 100 miles in a day. Just from going back and forth and back and forth. Then we at least have one more day of doing that before we have to fill up the tank again. So for me, I think that it is better to have a gas car rather than electric.
Currently electric vehicles are slowing becoming popular with some already on show room floors. Furthermore, there are many enthusiasts and groups that have really been pushing their use. Tough these cars do not share the same performance qualities of some gas-powered cars; the current technology has been rapidly catching up. Hybrid vehicles have offered in some ways the best of both worlds. The cars are environmentally friendly yet offer the power and distance capabilities of other cars on the market. Furthermore, there have been many ways of supplying electricity to the cars including home-rechargeable batteries and hydrogen power. Electric vehicles are a definite possibility for the future because they have the lowest emissions while driving.
The future American commuter will undoubtedly have to transition from the use of fossil fuels to new alternatives due to the diminishing availability of the nation’s oil resources. How will America respond to this upcoming issue? It is difficult to predict which alternative fuel source America will ultimately choose, but with the premier of Nissan’s electric powered Leaf and other companies; such as Tesla Motors and Chevy, with their electric cars ready for market, the electric car may be winning the race to become the new standard for the gasoline alternative. Electric cars resolve long standing environmental issues, but it will need to maneuver around many roadblocks to become a marketable consideration for the general public. The cost of electric cars, currently on the market, makes them an impractical purchase for the average consumer. If cost is not the growing concern in today’s economy which prevents the consumer from considering this option; they may deny the technological advance due to battery storage capabilities and the inadequate infrastructure in place to refuel and provide for them.
The substantial increase in the demand for EV’s came just in time as we are slowly but surely running out of oil. Some estimate that by the year 2040, 35 percent of all vehicles will be electric (Sullins, 2017). An article from the U.S. Department of Energy stated that “Electric vehicles hold a lot of potential for helping the U.S. create a more sustainable future. If the U.S. transitioned all the light-duty vehicles to hybrids or plug-in electric vehicles, we could reduce our dependence on foreign oil by 30-60 percent, while lowering the carbon pollution from the transportation sector by as much as 20 percent (energy.gov, 2014). It’s obvious that gas-powered vehicles have harmed our planet with their emissions. Although EV’s cannot reverse that damage that has been done, they can eliminate, or at least slow down, the inevitable demise that our planet is headed towards. Along with the beneficial environmental factors that correspond with electric cars, there are also beneficial financial factors. The average American spends about $2,000 on gas annually. In the future, charging stations will charge roughly $12.00 for a full charge, which is about 300 miles. This means that the average American will save about $1,400 per year on these specific car
Electric cars are becoming increasingly more necessary, and have more advantages than disadvantages. Electric cars help to decrease the noise, pollution as they are much quieter. They do not emit any (or much less) carbon emission than petrol cars. Electric vehicles are the greenest mode of transport in the personal transportation industry. For each litre of fuel used in an engine produces more than 2.5kg of CO2. CO2 will be produced by an electric car but still a very little amount. It is also possible to use renewable power or a green energy supplier in the electric car. Thus it would lead to less polluted and safe working environment for all of us. However, safety is a big concern with using vehicles. The fluids in the batteries actually take impact better than a fully made gas car because it is not that flammable. Petrol cars and diesel cars are more flammable than electric cars so they are greater of taking impact in the event of an accident. I think that this is a very good reason because fewer people would get injured or hurt. This would save money because electricity is cheaper than gas and electric cars are easy to operate. Also is very ECO –friendly which mean that it is cheaper to run and have to pay very little road tax. In a pure electric vehicle there’s nothing combustible and have far fewer moving parts than you would find in a petrol or diesel car.
The main problem with switching to electric vehicles are the efficiency, dependability, and cost of owning one. Average middle class consumers aren't going to want to
Electric car is vehicle that is derived by at least one electric motor. It turns electric energy stored in rechargeable batteries into movement. Electric cars can make United States more competitive and environmentally cleaner. Electric cars kill many birds by one stone: less pollution, environmental security, reliable, and deflate oil demand. However, the government should subsidize them by reducing registration penalties, and encourage companies that are producing electric cars; for example, the pluses of these cars extend to several areas, and they deserve government support.
Electric cars were recently introduced to the auto world. They are very fuel efficient while still having all the practicalities of a regular car. They are quiet and have zero emissions. They also are cheaper to maintain and cheaper to own then a gas powered car. Even though car enthusiasts dislike the idea of going fully electric, it is a very conscientious choice. Electric cars might seem like a useless form of transportation, but they offer features that help keep the Earth clean.
