There is a great amount of contrasting characteristics and social structure between the New England colony of Plymouth and the Chesapeake Bay colony of Jamestown. These include; reason for colonization, religious differences, and thriving markets. The colony of Plymouth was founded on the basis of religious freedom to escape Henry VIII’s Anglican church. The Puritans had first migrated to Holland, but later left believing that the Dutch were corrupting their children. Puritans wanted to live in what they believed the proper way to worship God; strict adherence. The only way this was possible was to go to the New World and start their own colony like Jamestown. Jamestown was founded because the new of the Spanish finding gold in the New World
