Cheryl strayed and Chris McCandless have had similar stories that ended up contrarily. To compare their lives, there are three main aspects that has to be taken in consideration. First, the way that they grew up with their families, and how they became stressed and depressed over the time. Second, what their escape was to overcome their depression. Third, what they actually did and what was the result of their actions.

Both of Cheryl and Chris grew up in a similar conditions. Cheryl have had some issues when she was young specifically from her father’s side. Her father was a heavy drinker; and he had been in many arguments with her mother. Cheryl suffered from a deep depression after the death of her mother. She felt that she was missing something in her life and she needed to cover it up as soon as possible. First, she became an heroin addict. Her addiction was developed after nurses were giving her some morphine injections as less as they can, but she wanted more and they refused (cherylstrayed). Afterwords, with the help of her friend “Joe”, she was offered some heroin and that 's how she started her addiction. Also, in a way to relief herself, she started to have sex with random people despite the fact that she is married. In fact, the first time that she cheated on her husband was just a week after her mother’s death (thesunmagazine). In one of the scenes of the movie Wild, she had sex with a random customer at the restaurant that she worked at. On the other hand, Chris thought that the key to solve his problems was him being isolated from everyone else. Much less, he didn’t care about anything that is related with money. For example, after his graduation, his parents wanted to buy him a new car, but, he refused to accept rudely (Into the Wild). Additionally, his parents gave him some money to cover his school tuitions that he donated all of it plus his life savings to the OXFAM charity
