When looking at the natural world one can clearly see an order in the occurrences within. Examples ranging from the 4 seasons, to the life cycle of every being, or even to the rising and setting of the sun on a daily basis, depending on your location in the world. With all of the orders comes a certain peace. We tend to seek out this peace after a bad day or a stressful week in the form of ‘Calming Sounds of Nature’ a half an hour of chirping birds, flowing streams, a gentle breeze across oats, or even the pitter patter of rain drops falling into the upper canopy of a rain forest. All of which we overlook and take for granted on a regular basis. Yet both Bradford and Emerson saw the value in observing our natural surroundings. As Emerson suggested a type of discipline was developed for the New England Puritans from their settings. They survived on food provided for them by God’s providence, they utilized those who could help further their cause in any way possible, and constantly looked at how they were affected by the natural world to help guide them as God’s chosen people. They were able to do this due to their isolation from the English society, this also is something Emerson deemed necessary for finding the absolute natural truths. Yet had Emerson looked at the situation he would have been able to predict their demise. They did not continuously strive to maintain their isolation. They sought relations with the Native Americans in order to help sustain the society. They also sought relations with England and relied partially on the feedback received from them. Ultimately though the entire idea of the society as a whole in New England would have been enough for Emerson to predict the down turn in the events which
