Around the time 3150 B.C., Ancient Egyptian society and civilizations first coalesced, creating many ancient city-states surrounding the main source of life, the Nile River. Like any functioning society, this ancient civilization followed rules and governments that are both similar and different to the modern rules of this day and age. Mainly, the similarity of the economic classes and the difference of the rulership. Also, a key point that is both similar and more advanced than modern society is the role of women in Egypt, specifically their civil rights that were much more modern than that of other civilizations at that time. Women also even held public office at the highest level, which hasn’t yet occurred even in modern America. One of the main points of equivalence in ancient versus modern society, especially between Egypt and America, is the separation of classes and how evenly it is separated. In the present, a popularly coined phrase is the “1%,” which is code for the richest people in the United States who supposedly hold more wealth than the bottom 70% combined. In our society, our head/main position is the president who is voted on and placed in office through a democracy. However in ancient times, Pharaohs ruled over these civilizations. They were elected by being “chosen” by God as a child of them, and their lineage continued on to be Pharaoh as a king’s would. This is different from ours since the election and choosing of their leader is more divine than democratic, since the Pharaohs are picked by God and continue on through inheritance, while we elect a new president every 4 years. Also, the rulership of this time in Egypt lasts for their life or until they’re not fit to rule, while our presidency can last for a total of up to 8 years in
