Skype is an advanced peer to peer system, whose primary function is to enable its users to keep in touch with friends and family via instant message, voice and video calls. It also allows low cost calls to mobile phones and landlines, so one can keep in touch even if their friend or family member does not use skype themselves. Skype uses an adaptation of the proprietaty Voice-Over-IP protocol, called the Skype protocol. The main difference between the Skype protocol and other standard clients using Voice-Over-IP protocols is that Skype operates on a peer-to-peer layout and design rather than relying solely on the client-server model for network communications.

In conclusion, Skype is a very exciting piece of software that is proving to be more and more integral in both out public and private lives. While it has a number of drawbacks, such as the previously mentioned gap and isolation it can create for the technologically incapable among older generations, it should be viewe more as a constantly devloping project rather than the finished article. Microsoft’s continued willingness to develop Skype for all modern day technologies and platforms ensure that it will continue to grow and retain it’s importance for the forseeable future, leaving knowledge of it’s layout to be a must know in modern day culture.
It is crucial that individuals take precautions when using technology to have conversations with others. Due to the fact that it can be dangerous, effective telephone communication is very important. Before using technology as communication devices, it is a good idea to know the main issues regarding it. It is also a good idea to know about any recent developments and how it affects its users. By making sure the technology has high ratings and positive feedback, there is a greater chance that you will be happier with the outcome of your purchase.
Formed in 1975, Microsoft started by selling a BASIC interpreter which quickly established a reputation for excellence. As the popularity of Microsoft BASIC grew, other manufacturers adopted Microsoft BASIC's syntax to maintain compatibility with existing Microsoft BASIC implementations. Because of this feedback loop, Microsoft BASIC became a de facto standard, and the company cornered the market. Later, it tried (unsuccessfully) to extend their grip on the home computer market by designing the MSX home computer standard.

The most lucrative business on the Internet is marketing. Companies have come up with ingenious ways to generate revenue with very targeted advertising. Each company has their unique method to identify their consumers, some more complicated than others. For example, on a website geared to new mothers the advertisements would reflect that by advertising for baby diapers or formula. This type of targeted advertising is understood and acceptable. The consumer benefits by having advertisements in their interests and the vendor has a higher likelihood of making a sale. The Internet has introduced novel ways to track consumer habits and interests thereby creating smarter advertising. Microsoft employs their browser Internet Explorer using “cookies” to track user habits. Cookies are pieces of text stored by a user’s web browser, they are sent back and forth every time a user accesses a web page. These can be tracked to follow web surfers’ actions. Do you use Skype?(Don't post it here): Yes I do use Skype, but my microphone doesn't work as well there.
Since Skype is available for Microsoft Windows, Macintosh, or Linux, as well as Android, Blackberry, Apple and Windows smartphones and tablets a large number of consumers are now making use of the other devices. Skype also faces competitive pressure from VoIP providers such as other mobile phone networks. As indicated by Jason G (2005) Competitive pressure forces firms to cater to their customers.
The first browser that could handle cookies was Netscape Navigator 1.0. Cookies have become commonplace on the web since that browser first came out in 1995. By one account, 26 of the top 100 web sites utilize these files. Sites that use cookies include AltaVista, all pages on the GeoCities domain, and the web version of the New York Times. The New York Times is a lot like Yahoo mail in that the acceptance of cookies is required. Most sites, however, do not require browsers to accept cookies.
4. To communicate with other computers, either one at a time (Instant message) or many at once (chat rooms or discussion groups).
“We barely have time to pause and reflect these days on how far communicating through technology has progressed. Without even taking a deep breath, we’ve transitioned from email to chat to blogs to social networks and more recently to twitter” (Alan 2007). Communicating with technology has changed in many different ways. We usually “get in touch” with people through technology rather than speaking with them face to face. The most popular way people discuss things, with another individual, is through our phones. Phones have been around way before I was born in 1996, but throughout the years, they have developed a phone called a “smart phone”. The smart phone has all kinds of new things that we can use to socialize with our peers. On these new phones, we can connect with our friends or family on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Technology has also developed Skype, a place you can talk with people on the computer with instant voice and video for hours. The new communication changes have changed drastically from the new advances made in technology through our smart phones, social networking sites, and Skype.

In December of 2008 Microsoft decided to kill off Windows Mobile because it couldn’t compete with the iPhone and Android. They decided instead to develop Windows Phone a completely new mobile operating system. In October of 2010 Microsoft's first phones running Windows Phone was established, but the sales were low. The company was not coming up with a firm product to successfully sell to the consumer because it was not meeting the wants and need of them as well. Microsoft had to find a way to boost sales. The combination of the two companies would help increase their sales on the Window Phones. Microsoft CEO said, “Clearly, greater success with phones will strengthen the overall opportunity for us and our partners to deliver on our strategy to create a family of devices and services for individuals and business.” (Zeman) Microsoft was determined to increase its strengths ...
