According to the oxford dictionaries, Communication, define as an action of exchanging information through speaking, writing or using others medium. Communication is often been used in our daily life as to deliver message from one to another.
Precisely, there are two elements that happen to in the communication process. There are the sender and the receiver. The sender is the individual who starts the communication by having a aspiration to convey an idea or thought to others. On the other hand, the receiver is someone who receives the message from sender. In this process, the sender would encode his or her idea into a message by selecting the medium such as words, symbols, writing or gesture. Later on, the message will be deliver through a carrier of communication, called channel or medium. Medium includes one on one conversation, conversation through phones, e-mail, or written documents. Then, the receiver will decode the message into significant information. However, during the medium of exchange, the message can be misleading with noise. Noise is something that distracts the message delivery. Last but not least, the message will be respond by sending back a feedback (Lunenburg, 2010).
Communication comes in variety ways, a gesture can mean something, and the same gesture may have different meaning in different environment under different influences. Gesture is part of the non-verbal behavior; it has been studies under non-verbal behavior as a way of communication. In the eighteenth century, many researchers have been discovery the significance of message from body movement. Japan, is to be believe about tidiness, purity and discipline in every movement from head to toe. Their culture are born to be taught as to be less touching in public, sit or stand straight instead of leaning, a lesser amount of eye contact compare to western cultures. Their disciplines represent the culture and the people’s behavior. Each of their movement pace in term of their speed, their hands, their legs, their mouth or eye contact is taught in steps.
As to conclude, we will need to study a little of cross cultural background before getting to communicate with them to avoid miscommunication. Non-verbal communication is an automatic respond from every individual, in order to understand them; we will need to do a little research on it, especially for business trip or discussion with different cultural people.
