THE LITERATURE REVIEW

I. Introduction
English is the third most widespread native language in the world, is the most widely learned second language, including Vietnam. Therefore, learning English to communicate with foreigners is becoming more and more popular and important for students. With the intended to study the difficulties of first year students in learning communication English, the researcher has focused on two basic concepts of communication English in this part. Next, other research which classified learning and speaking skills will be mention to have comprehensive understanding. This chapter will discuss about the difficulties of first year students in learning communication English. The researcher will define the difficulties to analyzing and comparing with this study.
1. Definition
So far, communication English has been defined in so many different concepts. Priscilla Josephine Sarah Researcher and her partners ( 2004) give out the definition that “the phrase ‘Communicative English’ refers to English which helps us to communicate effectively with people using language functions”. It means we can communicate with foreigners who talk English fluently. According to Brown (1994) the marriage between language and culture is indivisible. When listening to a conversation, this topic can contain a different cultural matter than students know. So it is very difficult for students to imagine what they are listened. In this case, the teacher or instructor should give prior knowledge in advance to help students have general information of what they will be listened.
