Color is one of essential factors in architecture, as James B. Jordan said:” Color is inescapable, except for those who are color blind”, which means how to use color in architecture be of great significance. People tend to acquire perceptual knowledge of one material through color, shape and texture, color hold the most important position. People can identify a city including culture, classic by urban color. In addition, color in architecture’ functionality cannot be ignored. It contributes to bring convenient and efficient lifestyle for civil. Moreover, successful urban colors improve the public impression, result to promote and attract visitors. However, influence of color in architecture does not only good, blind chase for individuality may cause “color pollution”, also the visual fatigue and confusion. In order to succeed in designing the way to use color, some points should be included—culture, landscape, and function.

According to Vastus Hastra (a system), color synchronizes and balances our energies and affects our lifestyle. For example, red reminds us of fire, power and energy. By contrast, blue signifies water, freshness, melancholy. However, each color has its own special meaning in different countries, which means colors symbolize different cultures of cities or countries. For instance, the Forbidden City in China used yellow and red as dominant tones, because of traditional opinions in China. Although physical geography and human geography are main elements of color in architecture, structure of building also decides the distribution of colors. Symmetry and contrast are usually used in design. The former consists of same acreage or shape of colors currently, the latter chooses strong color to strengthen visual effects. With the appearance of Deconstruction Architecture, some architects tend to use multi-component and fragmentized elements in designs, colors has these features as well. Imperial War Museum North is a representative of Deconstruction Architecture, the fragmentized and dark color create the serious atmosphere which appeal to the function of museum simultaneously.
Color in architecture needs system considering, apart from the factor mentioned above such as culture, geography, function and structure, other elements should be thought.
Color seems like a unique topic that researchers have been examining for quite some time. Various people have claimed that how we perceive color is the same universally and cross-culturally. We essentially see what is visible to our human eyes through a very small chunk of what is known as the electromagnetic spectrum. Although people with normal sight perceive this visible section of colors the same way, there is more contemporary research which points out that the way we categorize and think about color is more complex then it is made out to be. In this paper, I aim to discuss how there is support regarding how different cultures and languages do affect the way we understand and think about color. However, I believe there is much more close studying and research needed in the future to make more exceptional claims involving color perception to conclude that it is either solely universal or reliably dependent on one’s culture and language.
Color can be a semiotic resource. It has many uses in the cultural association of signs. Some features that contribute as a signifier are saturation, purity, modulation, value and hue. Red can signify danger, green can stand for hope. In most countries black is a sign of mourning. However, in some parts of Europe, brides wear black for their wedding. In China and some other Eastern Asian countries, white is considered the color for mourning. While in America and most of Europe, white is a sign of purity and warn by brides. These contrasts of cultural semiotics make color partly unpredictable. In order for the color to function as a sign, there must be a consensus of meaning. In most cases there is not a consensus that is shared by all societies. There are some regularities and this is what makes color function as a semiotic resource. The challenge is understanding the motivations and interests of different groups. Some colors translate well and some do not. Finding these regularities within groups and applying them as semiotic resources is a challenge (Kress, 2002). Some associations to color are universal and these connections could spread as communication becomes more global (Eiseman, 2000).

Or they take control of the viewer by using colors? For example, when you see the red color in a surprising way it mean stop now. “God made the country; man made the town” the deprivation of colors makes the town really sad. Life without colors is unbearable. Scientific explanation of the white color is a mixture of rainbow colors; it is not fair to dispensed seven colors for one color. Italian art and culture changed numerous times throughout history, bringing about some of the world’s most unique and beautiful design concepts. While many marvel at the beauty of magnificent architecture, one-of-a-kind paintings, and breathtaking sculptures, the interiors of these buildings were just as remarkable. Rebirth of classical architecture became prominent along with the notion of an ideal city, where proportions were of the upmost importance. Many early interior architects used patterns and colors, along with strategically placed furniture, to create rooms of unity and proportion. With the architectural rediscovery of classical design, artisans and designers of the time were called upon to create interiors that met those needs.
Does black architecture exists? If so, why has it been ignored for so many centuries? I am reviewing this topic to show that black architecture does exist today and always have existed since centuries ago. I want to be more knowledgeable about my culture of African-American architects and their extraordinary architectural projects. I would like to share my knowledge with my kids, my family, my culture, my friends, and the entire society so they can all share this incredible information with others. I am doing a study on black architecture because many people believe that there is no such thing because no one hardly ever acknowledge them.

It not only defines the space of the community that it participates in but it also shapes the community’s place in history. Moreover, historians all over the world have found architecture playing a key role while they study the communities in time periods. Architecture helps the historian decipher the civilization's daily life and the values they hold. The historians are able to decipher as such by looking at the recurring structural feature and ornamental feature of certain buildings of certain time period. Some of the significant feature of the building usually defines the political regime or the religious values of the civilization.
Architecture is the concept of bringing structure, materiality, form and space together as a whole, provide people with enclosed atmosphere to experience. Considering this, it is important to identify that materiality and the purpose of details has been a key methodology to bringing architectural intentions into the design in an affective manner, more over producing an architectural expression. However, this position is rather declining in architecture, reducing tectonics and materiality to being secondary to form and space. With the start of modernism, the attempt to achieve minimalistic style has caused detailing to increasingly develop into a decorative aspect of a building, neglecting its individual contribution to architecture.

When linking the concept of cultural relativism to architecture, one would realize that both these components depend on each other. One cannot exist without the other (Kohler, 2003). Kohler remarks that in order for architecture to be progressive, The transfer and acceptance of technologies and techniques has to be based on a sound knowledge of regional culture (Kohler, 2003). In other words, the existing architecture or urban environment has to distinguish the features of regional diversity. Cultural exchange must consider the environment. No clash exists between regional and environmental appropriate construction techniques (Kohler, 2003). This is so because traditional architecture has adopted economic and environmental solutions. Conflict can only exist if one considers the ‘international style’ that has popularized the modern era with its high resource consumption. Kohler (2003) also stresses that there should be no regional cultural boundaries in order for architecture to be progressive (Kohler, 2003:86)
“When it comes to interior design styles, give yourself the permission to think outside the box. There are so many wonderful ways to define who you are by creating a magnificent living space. Allow yourself to be creative. Be stylish. And when I say outside the box, I don’t necessarily mean go crazy, I simply suggest you take some steps to create the type of home that you really want or that your client is asking you to create” (Yule 1). Looking into interior design there are many elements that contribute to the way people view the room or area, such as the color, flooring, furniture, fabrics, and accessories in every room. Kandinsky, one of the first abstract painters, was heavily interested in color in art. He developed various theories and ideas on the attributes of color in art and the best way to use them in his own art. Different emotions and energy are created depending on the amount of color used in an artwork such as if one color is used versus three colors. The energy that color creates in art can also set the tone of a piece. Color can cause ones feelings of emotion to become to sleepy or stressed, happy and excited, sad and angry, energized, and so much more. Kandinsky came up with a color theory that focuses on basic points. Kandinsky chose colors such as yellow, green, blue, red and the shades of red, brown, orange, violet, white, black, and grey. He felt that yellow evoked warm, cheeky and exciting feelings. Green was a color that meant peace or stillness and an absolute absence of movement. Although these feelings could be a good feeling for most, it could eventually evoke boredom. He felt that blue was a heavenly color and the lighter it is, the more calming it becomes. If Kandinsky genuinely had a favorite color it undoubtedly was blue. He mentions that the deeper the color blue becomes, the more strongly it will call a man towards the unbounded, inciting in this man a desire for the pure the supernatural. He mention that the brighter the color blue becomes, the more it begins to lose its sound and after losing its sound it turns into a silent stillness and becomes white. Kandinsky's belief in color and the emotional connection it causes in art is evident in all of his work. The many colors in Kandinsky’s color theory have definite meaning and further show that color was much more than a tone or palette choice in art for him. Land use and building orientation also plays a critical role in green architecture. A green building is located to take advantage of its climate and surroundings. These conditions not only affect the efficiency of a building, but of the community and society as a whole.
Behind every architectural work there is an architect, whether the architect is one man or woman, a small group, or an entire people. The structure created by any of these architects conveys a message about the architect: their culture, their identity, their struggles. Because of the human element architects offer to their work not just a building is made, but a work of art, a symbol of a people, a representation, is also created.
