Colonization DBQ The Atlantic Ocean separates the Colonies from Britain by miles of water, therefore, the Colonies slowly start their own democracy to create political laws, economy, and religious freedom to deal with the salutary neglect of Britain. Democracy is when the people have the power to vote for a popular sovereignty. Connecticut develops law for a form of democratic order. Colonist in Connecticut vote for a Governor to withhold justice among General Assemblies and Courts. Governors are chosen by anyone who is eligible to vote during the time. The Colonist also have the power to vote a session in order and can impeach the designate too.(Doc 3). Virginia creates the House of Burgesses. The House of Burgesses is like the modern legislative branch of Democracy, where people are voted into representatives. At these meetings people vote for which laws to be passed.(Doc 6). Most of colonies looking for religious freedom inclined to make laws. Lord Baltimore creates the Maryland Toleration Act which is used to basically protect Catholics from Protestants during the time.(Doc 1) The act did not protect Jews or Mormons. People who went against the acts were banished and would later create other Northern Colonies. The Pilgrims were the first people to flee directly from the British Churches. Before landing upon shore they make the Mayflower Compact which was the first Government doctrine and a foothold for more to come.
The Colonies did create a slow form of Democracy. Colonies did create laws to provide order in representing colonies as a whole while still giving the people power. Democracy influenced the economy as how they could trade with different areas along the Triangular sea. Laws were made to keep religion intact among Colonist as one can dislike the
