Time Management for College Students

This letter seeks to give an overview of the problem of time management among college students who are the target audience in this paper. The paper also highlights on the probable solutions ascribed to it. It also seeks to identify a simple three part model that capsulate a viable solution to this problem if followed to the latter. The problem of time management can be said to be universal not only affecting students but also other people in careers. This problem is seen to transition from a person’s life from different cadres of his or her engagement specifically from home, school and at work. It is also a problem that is internal and not external. This calls a need for people especially students in college to warm up to the fact that if they are unable to manage their time appropriately while in school it is apparent that as they transition into their working life they will demonstrate the same effects still while on the job. It is therefore, vital for the students to realize the actual root causes of poor time management and arrest the same in good time. Some of the stated causes include: lack of prioritizing tasks, lack of setting personal goals, failing to manage distractions, procrastination, multitasking and last but not least in effective scheduling of tasks. These causes can be remedied by the use of a model that has been explained in the paper and advises the students to adopt three simple approaches which are: Proper Planning, Stress Management and Right Perception. In conclusion, the students need to adopt these approaches in a realistic and practical way. This means that the students need to have a high level of discipline and a high caliber of pro-activity so as to achieve positive results on the same. To sum up everything stated above, it is necessary to mention that there are three effective tools that help to manage time for students: correct planning, stress management, and evaluation of time management.
