1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background The program that I have chosen is Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) Business Information Management in HELP University. The aim of this program is to provide understanding of the issues involved in develop and managing information systems in a current business context. This program also gives students the appropriate knowledge and skills to enable them to adopt with the field of managing and developing effective information systems in business environment. While in the program of Bachelor of Science Information System Management (Hons) in UiTM, this program recognizes information as strategic resource. The purpose is to educate and train students with knowledge and skills in how the way of managing information. This include of analyze, design, develop, and managing various types of information systems for identifying, acquiring, organizing, storing, and retrieving as well as disseminating information for users strategic and competitive purposes. Overall I choose HELP University as to compare with the program that is Bachelor of Science Information Management (Hons) because I find the program is interesting and the subjects offer also is appropriate with the requirements of job in current situation that is the business field has become so famous. Besides that, I choose this program because there are several similarities and differences compare to Information System Management.
1.2 Issues and Problems
In the aspect of issue and problems, I think that this two program do not has any problems because this two program was updated and this program also has been well known by the students and can attract students. The field of information systems has grown and become more promising than in previous years. This increase demands highly skilled professionals to keep up with the quickly changing world of IS. Looking for a job in the Information Systems field opens the door for many disciplines, each with its significance in the business world. Most businesses need information systems skills to accomplish their goals. There is a wide selection of career options in the field of information systems. There are the technical positions, such as dealing with information management and hardware and software management, and the people-oriented technology positions, such as dealing with the design and operation of Internet applications (“Why Major,” n.d.).
“Constant efforts, dedication, devotion and determination are the key to success” This principle I have followed in my career. Setting goals and striving hard to accomplish them has always been my strength in professional as well as personal life. I have always been amazed by computers, code –programs and was keen to understand the underlying meaning, gimmick, structure and pattern of how programs actually work. Learning about simple Foxpro programs, excel sheet formulae, C programs at an early age heightened my interest in computer programs. This childhood interest urged me to do a diploma in information technology and later bachelor’s degree in the same area. Having completed six years course in Information Technology, and two years of experience in IT. I stand by the principal “Stay Hungry” and this has helped me in achieving my goals. Standing by this I would like to explore ahead and pursue MS in MIS. I would like emerge to put to use this knowledge to pursue MS program in MIS.
Moreover, the academic program will give me a platform where I can make substantial contribution to in-class discourse. Courses like "Political Economy of the G-20" and "Developing Economy of the Global World" taught by experts in their respective fields will help me gain knowledge that will give me an intellectual edge while preparing for a career in foreign services. The Information system advances so rapidly that at times it is too difficult to keep up with it without proper knowledge and experience. Being well acknowledged about the above saying has pushed me a mile further for every aspect of my life. The four year engineering course in Information Technology has always been a beautiful experience and has inspired me to put the knowledge into my Masters degree. This would allow me to enhance my knowledge about technology and its pros and cons and the guidance I would need. My interest in Information Systems Management was drawn when I was working on my final year project at Maharashtra Institute of Technology under the able guidance of the head of the Computer Engineering department. Professor R. K. Bedi’s support provided a much needed boost to my confidence in my programming skills. This new found confidence, in conjunction with the organization management skills I had acquired through active participation in extracurricular activities like “Tesla”, in inter college programming fest, made me realize I wanted to pursue a program that had comprised a blend of both the computer science and management disciplines.
My professional and academic experiences have also influenced my decision to pursue the UMSI program. In June 2007, after completing my undergraduate study in engineering, I joined Cognizant Technology Solutions as a Programmer Analyst Trainee. The organization recruited thousands of students each year and I did not perceive the opportunity to learn, grow and express myself in such a huge factory-like setup. The mechanical processes that I encountered also clouded my judgment about specializing in information technology.
