College Admissions Essay: Why Am I Here?

Why am I here? Such a simple question. Why am I here? Such a simple question, but I never asked it. Why am I here necessarily? What made me want to come here? What drove me to college? Was it for me? Was it for the people around me? All these questions seem to have flew over my head. Many people say that they are going to college to be a doctor, or a teacher, or an athletic trainer. But, why exactly are we heading to college? Are we heading to college because we truly want more education, or does society tell us that successful people attend and graduate from college? I took all these questions into consideration, just so I get the most accurate reason as to why I’m here in college. I came to college because I received a basketball scholarship, and I wanted to continue to play the sport that I love. I came to college because society has led me to believe that going to college will help me become a successful person. I came to college because my parents wanted me to further my education. I came to college because I wanted to get away from the negative things that plagued the city I live in. I came to college because I wanted to meet new people and learn more about myself. One main reason is how much the education costs. It’s a lot. Many people don’t want to spend that much on an education when they can get a regular job that pays well, and grit out the hours and live fine. Others would rather try to find their own come-up. The world is different now. You can become an entertainer through social media, and get paid just as well or better than a regular 9 to 5 job. People are starting to realize that there is money out there in different places, and that they don’t have to be the normal everyday person to live comfortable. So why am I here? Because I feel like college is meant for me, and I’ll feel more comfortable out in the world with a college
