When presented with the opportunity to leave the world in a better place compared to when you entered it is an opportunity that cannot be passed up. A career as an engineer allows me to achieve my goal in life, which is to ultimately help people. I decided in my sophomore year of high school that I wanted to become a Chemical Engineer. Engineers help people and change the world, which is exactly what I dream of doing. I will strive to learn to design and analyze products and systems that transform raw materials into materials like life-saving medicines, innovative renewable energy sources, and more. All of these things improve products and enhance lives. I want to have an impact on the world by working to improve the quality of people's lives. I have narrowed my top schools to either Villanova or Lehigh. Both schools possess a great reputation in engineering, however, are rather expensive. I am already thinking about my situation after graduating, and by attending a university in Pennsylvania, I am given the ability to make connections worldwide by taking advantage of studying near a city like Philadelphia. The Ultimate Career Goal: I am extremely passionate about marine and wildlife ecosystems and all their inhabitants and have a desire to work in a career that allows me to work closely within these ecosystems as well as allowing myself to educate those that surround me about the importance of science. When deciding on what career best suited me, I found myself considering my role as a global citizen. As an inhabitant of this earth, I felt that it was my duty to advocate for its protection. I therefore decided to study Environmental Engineering. By generating ways for humans to creatively coexist with our environment I will be helping to create a more sustainable world as a whole. Similarly, this idea of making decisions based on the needs of my community has been prevalent throughout my life. As a young woman growing up in an urbanized setting and attending public schools all of my life, when the time came to start planning and searching for colleges, I searched for schools that I felt fit my persona, that I would be comfortable attending for some of the most integral years of my life.
