Cold Weather Safety
Many Southerners don’t understand the new hazards that are brought on by extreme cold weather. Last year 8 people died due to cold weather and 29 in 2011. Some of these dangers include; chilblain, hypothermia, frostbite, trench foot, and snow blindness. Here are some suggestions that will keep you warm and safe!

When do cold weather injures begin?
Cold injuries can occur at temperatures up to 60 degrees! So don’t think just because it’s not freezing you can’t be a victim.

Who is more susceptible to cold injuries?
While there is no one who is immune to cold weather injuries, there are groups of people who are at a higher risk of becoming a cold weather injury. Those groups are:
• The young and old
• People from very warm climates
• Overweight or obese persons
• People with poor nutrition habits
• Those who have not had training or experience in cold climates
