Coffee, one of the most common drinks in our society. Majority of people like to get a taste of it and have an enjoyable time. However, it may lead to both physical and psychological influence. Caffeine is usually taken in form of coffee (Frishman, Del Vecchio, Sanal, and Ismail, 2003). Since caffeine is the substance most being taken in, it will be focused in the following parts. In the first part, several aspects involving effects of caffeine, reasons of popularity, drug of dependence, and withdrawal are discussed. In the second part, the result of a research with analysis focusing on drinking pattern (amount of coffee taken in for certain time), reason to take coffee, good and bad effects of coffee on coffee takers, and knowledge among them is illustrated.

Popularity and Effects of Caffeine-containing Coffee
The popularity is evidenced by majority of literatures. It is because, besides tasty, coffee can enhance mood, needs as social intercourse, for example taking coffee and talking with friends in caf¨¦, is also one of the main reasons. Furthermore, caffeine benefits us in different kinds of aspects. It can raise arousal (alertness), human performance including vigilance performance, logical reasoning, concentration and memory. Besides, enhancing mood, reducing boredom also are the advantages accounting for popularity of coffee.
On the other hand, the adverse effects should not be ignored; it is mainly related to health. It leads to hypertension, anxiety, and sleep disturbance. By this definition, and after knowing the effects of caffeine upon the human body, I have come to the conclusion that drinking caffeine is a sign of a lack of respect for oneself, and of an unappreciative attitude toward the life that each of us has been blessed with. Furthermore, it shows of either our inability, or unwillingness to learn to think clearly.
What happen to the caffeine when it is ingested, and what are its consequences? In addressing these questions, there have been many contributors spent much time to prove that caffeine has been shown to behave as an adenosine antagonist to stimulate motor activity, mood and behavior. This antagonist behavior is the basis for an increase in cholinergic and dopaminergic behavior after caffeine intake. Beside of that, the acute administration of caffeine has been reported by several laboratories to elevate brain level of serotonin (5-HT) and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA). This increase of serotonin may be associated with the improvement in good mood. Recent studies also show the higher caffeine intake to a lower suicide risk. In this paper, I will investigate the caffeine at a biochemical level and relate its effects on physiological behavior of human with information from the recent research.
A lot of people often wonder what caffeine is. When isolated in pure form, caffeine is a white crystalline powder that tastes very bitter. The chief source of pure caffeine is the process of decaffeinating coffee or tea. Caffeine is used to provide“boost energy” or a feeling of heightened alertness. It is often used to stay awake longer and late into the night. Many people feel as though they “cannot function” in the morning without a cup of coffee to provide caffeine and the boost it gives them. Caffeine is an addictive drug. It operates using the same mechanisms that amphetamines, cocaine, and heroin use to stimulate the brain. Caffeine effects are more mild than amphetamines, cocaine, and heroin, but it is manipulating the same channels, and that is one of the things that gives caffeine its addictive qualities. If you feel like you have to have caffeine everyday and cannot live without it, then you are considered addicted to caffeine.

After completion of the experiment, it can be concluded that this investigation would be a useful reference for caffeine consumers interested in the effect of caffeine on psychological and physiological reaction times. That being said, this experiment will have introduced a method of testing the effect of caffeine on psychological and physiological reaction times, which they may undergo for themselves.

Although the Coca-Cola company won, it proves that people worry about what they put into their bodies, even if it does help them stay up to finish their homework. Not everybody will experience the same effects from caffeine. Some people seem more sensitive to caffeine than others (Staff 1). While some will express unwanted effects after only one cup of coffee or tea, others will not notice these same effects until after maybe four or five cups. Although caffeine does include benefits, many downfalls exemplify the stimulant as well. Drinking even small amounts of caffeine daily develops harmful effects on most people’s body and health.

It also contains trigonelline, an antibacterial compound. This is where coffee acquires its delicious aroma. Now let’s step back for a minute and just think about how much caffeine people consume. In an 8oz cup of coffee it has about 85 milligrams of caffeine. This is about double the amount that tea contains. Studies have shown that caffeine stimulates the brain and nervous system. This is where you get that energized feeling. After about the third cup, knees start to bounce, pens are clicking and people start running laps around the office. Caffeine can become addicting if you drink too much. Coffee can become that addictive habit people are unable to shake.

On the other hand, tea drinkers usually drink tea because of the enjoyment that tea give them, the relaxations that tea provide.
