Teachers have the power to affect values and character of the young in at least three ways: serve as effective caregiver (by loving and respecting their students), serve as models (by demonstrating high level of respect and responsibility both inside and outside the classroom) and as ethical mentors (by providing moral instruction and guidance though explanation) (Lickona, 1991, pp. 71-72). The movie Coach Carter showed a big problem about moral values not only from the students, but from the principal and teachers of the school. Ken Carter (Samuel L. Jackson) accept a work as a basketball coach at Richmond High School in California. He started working with the students with a contract, where they need to have a point average of 2.3, set at the fron row of the class, be on class and not be late to practice. He taught to students and faculty of the school to not be conformist with what they have and that they can go beyond what the statistics say. Most of them ended up in jail or dead. But what Ken Carter did with the statistics? He accepted the job to make a change in the school and in the lives of those students. At the end, 5 of them received scholarships to play basketball in colleges and they got a degree from these universities. The protagonist shows the values of respect, responsibility, caregiver and mentoring.

One of the dilemmas that the protagonist had to deal with was when Carter decided to lockout the gym. The team went undefeated and had won a tournament where they received a trophy. When he got back to school, he found that the academic progress of all players on the team was unsuccessful. As they had to keep 2.3 point average and attend classes, players breached the contract.
