NBA, the National Basketball Association, has become a worldwide craze nowadays. Those star players in NBA have a big impact on today’s youth. Among those star players, LeBron James, who plays for Cleveland Cavaliers, is praised as one of the greatest players in the world. Nevertheless, LeBron James’ personality has been questioned. Some of LeBron James behaviors have shown that he is a narcissistic person and have actually created a bad image among some reporters and people in Cleveland. His narcissistic personality can be seen from certain remarks he utters, the negative attitude he has when he faces the failures or criticisms and last but not least, his self-centeredness, disrespectful attitude to the sports reporters and the locals in his …show more content…

LeBron James’ basketball career is quite smooth and successful. Notwithstanding, there is no doubt that both winning and losing are a common occurrence on the court. In the 08-09 Finals, Cavaliers lost to the Orlando. James refused to shake hands with the victors and said: “It’s hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them, I am a winner”. It is reasonable that people feel disappointed after losing a game. Nevertheless, for the narcissists, their reactions are more exaggerated, and some negative emotions will come up and they are called highly introverted narcissists. Those narcissists think highly of fame and emphasize the failure. As for LeBron, he refuses to shake hands with the victors shows that he has exaggerated the losing while this game just one of his many games. As a result, he might build up a personality calls “malignant self-regard”, which means he might going to suck in depression and cannot recover from the failure. Furthermore, as a star player as well as a public figure, he should realize that it is important to have sportsmanship as an athlete. However, his emotional outburst has shown his defensiveness and aggressiveness to the victors who have done nothing wrong but beaten him in one game. Throughout his career in NBA, lots of sports reporters have complained about him for he always ignores them and acting individually. He refuses to do the interview even from his cities’ TV broadcasting team. This might be due to the notion of superiority he has as well as his obsession of leadership. Accordingly, in his mind, everyone should admit his leadership, admire his basketball skill and follow his instructions. Therefore, whether or not to give an interview is his own business. Even if he’s obsession of leadership is very strong, he is not a good leader since he does not have the social concern, which is the element of charisma. As a Cleveland player, “he supported New York Yankees instead of the team from Cleveland and [wear] a Yankees baseball cap” at a playoff baseball game that was held in Cleveland. Frankly, there is nothing wrong about which team LeBron is supporting. Nevertheless, as a public figure in Cleveland, wearing a Yankee’s cap at Cleveland’s home game can be understood as a provocation and disrespect to all the locals.
