Classroom Management Reflections: Classroom management is one of the most important skills that a teacher could have and one of the most important qualities that a classroom should have. It is needed to keep the class safe, positive atmosphere that a lot of children unfortunate don’t have at home. During my practicum at a local elementary school I followed a kindergarten teacher that had excellent classroom management skills which allowed her to be a very successful teacher. Throughout my 52 hours at the elementary school, I learned many great strategies that I can use throughout my years as a teacher. I was lucky enough to witness a student who had difficulty speaking English and didn’t know many letters in the alphabet. After many months working with the school and the teacher I was observing I noticed her change in her competency. She was able to stay the alphabet, started learning to read, and could start counting into the 50’s. When teaching she often asked students questions who were always eager to answer. She would ask a variety of students who may or may not know the answer. She promoted an open classroom that allowed the student to not feel bad about themselves if they answered wrong. She would delve deeper into a question on and idea to make sure that each child knew the material. She would always go back to a concept that students struggled with and tried to relate it to a real world problem. Each child may not understand a concept but she made sure to work with each child to the best of her ability to make sure each child got the help they needed. The teacher I observed had great strategies that I will use in future. Her ability to create a classroom that was open to questions and her clear teaching habits are something that is admired and something I will strive to replicate in the future for my future
