These objects are planned to be met through the shadowing and guidance of other Classification Officers. Now, that I have access to the CDC I am now able to conduct initial and progress interviews with inmates, like a Classification officer would do. Through this interview I will be able to speak with them about different programs that the institution offers as well as accept any request they have.
This internship is allowing me to fully immerse and experience the criminal justice system from within the institutional corrections system at Everglades Correctional Intuition. With both of these positions I will learn supervisory and management skills, which will only help in the long run. I will not only be responsible for myself and meeting deadline but I will be responsible for the actions of the Classification officers under me or the probationers I have been assigned to. If I do make the switch to probations, I will also develop investigation skills. After a few more years as either a Classification Officer Supervisor or Probation Officer, I would like to become the Assistant Warden of programming or the Chief of Probations. In these roles I will develop skills in planning and execution of a department. I will be responsible for ensuring that the mission and purpose of the department is met. I will also be able to hone skills in data analysis and solution development. All of the skills I will obtain in my plan, starting with this internship, will aid me in the creation of a resource center for young non-violent offenders. The interview and decision making skills will help in deciding who is eligible to use our services. Supervisory and management skills will prove to be an asset in bringing on a team to aid me in this center. Lastly, the planning, execution, data analysis, and the ability to develop a solution will ensure the success of the
I had the opportunity to conduct a phone interview with Caleb Justice; a corrections officer from the Federal correctional Institution in Terre Haute, Indiana. Caleb is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he served four years on active duty as a machine gunner. During his four years he deployed on a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as well as to Nowzad and Musa Qala Afghanistan. After serving honorably Caleb decided to take his skill set to the civilian sector and began seeking employment in the Criminal Justice System.
As a newly promoted Lieutenant in charge of jail operations in the Houston Police Department (HPD), there are several critical issues regarding the jail environment that require immediate attention such as, inadequate conditions of confinement, health care, security measures, and sexual misconduct between correctional officers and inmates. The aforementioned issues are a controversial topic all across the U.S. and it usually attracts media attention and creates negative publicity towards the Department of Corrections. A lieutenant of jail operations is responsible for his or he shift and oversees multiple areas of the jail facility. Responsibilities of a jail lieutenant includes but is not limited to the following: (1) coordinate shift activities;
Some of the fields that are included within the internship program now involve Department of Patrol Services, Department of Detention Services, Specialty Units (HSD- Homeland Security and CID- Criminal Investigation Division), Digital Communication Dispatch, and Child Protection Investigation Division. Some of the fields that I have experienced so far are the Department of Patrol Services and the Department of Detention Services. The Department of Detention Services includes Jail Division I which is the booking portion at Orient Road Jail, Jail Division II which is the housing portion at Falkenburg Road Jail, Jail Division III which is the transportation portion around the entire Hillsborough County, and Court Services which is at the courthouses in downtown Tampa. I also have participated in the Department of Patrol Services out of District II, which is around the USF area.
I enjoyed reading your essay this week Daniel. The process of classifying and reclassifying should be an on-going and continuous process in any correctional facility according to Carlton and Garrett (2008). Accurate classification of incoming inmates is important to both inmates and the correctional staff. Accurate classification allows facilities to group similar inmates and serves to ensure safety and security of inmates and staff. Inmates are classified on things such as age, aggressiveness, type of crime committed, and gender (Carlton & Garrett, 2008). Inmate classification has changed since the times of the first penal institutions. In the beginning there was no classification and all inmates were housed together (Carlton & Garrett,
Unlike a menial position at your local Walmart, a position at your local prison is admirable and moderately difficult to land, hence one has to be prepared and qualified to take on the duties expected of them if they aspire to land a job as a correctional officer. To do so, I will attend the law enforcement program at BOCES, a vocational school connected to the school in which I attend. And post high school, I intend to apply to the State University of New York at Canton. While attending SUNY Canton, I’ll earn an AAS in criminal justice.
Your final report should be a complete report of your internship experiences under the title “How I Evaluate Myself as a Future Criminal Justice Worker,” and may not exceed five typed pages. Describe the extent to which the theoretical knowledge included your course work at the College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University contributed to your field practice experience during your internship. Cite at least two SHSU courses. Show what you have learned, indicate how your ideas have changed or been supported, and why. List your strengths and weaknesses and grade yourself on job performance.
The Unites States Marshals service has been a very beneficial internship. The Marshals were all very nice and informative. They had me taking care of the front desk. More days than not, there was filing of medical papers for the year 2015 and the year 2016. Some people have a large stack of papers because they are always needing medical attention while in custody. The next thing I do is answer the phone. This happens to be one of the more interesting tasks. You really never know who it is going to be or what they are going to say. If needed, I transfer the individuals to other people whom can help them. I also attend court hearings throughout the day. These hearings can be from many different
If I was to become a probation officer, one thing I would want to be is efficient, and successful. There would be several things I would try to focalize my attention on; supervision in communities, and its importance. Probation officers have very complex, and hard job; but if done with the right intentions, and the will to help people you can help change people’s lives.
Firstly, in order to gain a better understanding of the problems that plague or correctional system we must fully understand the enormous overcrowding problem that exist in the majority of or state and federal prisons. Since 1980 the prison population has quadrupled and only the numb...
A correctional officer is apart of a staff in a detention center, prison, or a jail that sets to accomplish the goals of the institution’s objectives by maintaining control and order within the prison (Seiter, 2011). While the role of a correctional officer is very crucial within a prison, depending on the unique role to a specific location, it is important that we understand that these humble and quiet guardians are in the correction facilities. Between the different criminal justice facilities, the mission and goals between them are vastly different, although there is very little contrast in the roles that correctional officers play in these facilities. Correctional officers are solely in charge of the direct and constant supervision of prisoners and administering the security procedures and protocols within a facility. These officers also need to be extremely well informed in the technical and interactive realm of the prison system as daily interactions with the inmate population requires them to have strict adherence to policies and a sharp attention to
An internship defined as a formal program to provide practical experience for beginners in an occupation or profession. It’s easy to learn about something in the classroom and take a test on it and move on; but when you actually do the work in the real life, you see that you do not understanding all and how much more you need to learn first. My internship was at ArroGen Advance Forensics; and the internship gave me a lot more than just experience. While I was there I performed many different tasks and learned lots of skills.
This reflection paper is divided into five main sections. The first section gives a general introduction of internship that I was doing during my internship period. The second section provides an overview of the internship practice and tasks that I was assigned to do. The third section is about the office technologies I used during the internship. The fourth section is about the benefits of the RCBC Paralegal Program courses taken as applied to the work that I performed. The final section is devoted to the knowledge and experience that I gained during the course of internship.
ability to establish a professional work ethos as well as developing skills needed to maintain a work life balance. This is a matter of pleasure for me to acknowledge my deep sense of gratitude to University Sains of Malaysia for giving me an opportunity to explore my abilities via this internship programme. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my academic supervisor, Dr. Amirul Shah for their valuable guidance and advice in completing this internship.
My internship experience this semester was interesting. I interned at ESH/MESH with Bridgeway. My Supervisor was Emilie Banz. I didn’t do much but I did learn a lot from this experience. I met a lot of great people and watch PsyR in action. I met a couple of individuals who were really cool. My experience this semester has prepared me for the next.
