“Civility costs nothing, and buys everything.” - a quote by Mary Wortley Montagu is a perfect representation of civility displayed all around Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). Civility, found in the dictionary, is known as “formal politeness and courtesy in behavior or speech”. ERAU exemplifies civility throughout its campus perfectly just as the definition states. Throughout ERAU students, faculty, and staff demonstrate civility daily whether it be by acts of kindness, approachability, or support. One way that the members of ERAU show civility is be demonstrating acts of kindness throughout the week. A number of students will open the door for you when walking into a building. This exemplifies civility because most of the millennials of this era don’t show such …show more content…
Embry-Riddle has an astounding support group in a variety of ways. First, students involved in clubs/organizations conduct study groups alongside their peers. Not only are you gaining a support group of friends but you make good grades doing it. Second, your professors have office hours for students whenever they may have questions or concerns about anything regarding the class. It may begin as just having a few questions on that Pre-Calculus homework that you may have, but the more you attend your professor's office hours the more you gain their support. Third, staff members, such as the Psychologist on campus, provide a place for overwhelmed and stress ridden students to visit and offer help with stress and anxiety, or if you just need a person to talk to. There is also Pepino, the therapy dog, who is always ready to help relieve stress. As mentioned earlier, the faculty are willing to help us succeed by conducting mock job interviews and constructing the ideal resume. This example shows not only acts of kindness but support from faculty by showing that they care and going out of their way for each and every
In The Saga of the Volsungs, a paradoxical notion of the value of life emerges from almost every action that the characters perform. One’s corporeal death is almost of no concern in the sometimes harsh and cruel society of the saga. The importance of honor over almost anything else can explain many of the seemingly contradictory and nonsensical actions of characters in the saga. This obsession with honor constitutes the basis for an honor society—a culture where pain, death, and other earthly concerns fall short in significance to one’s good name and honor. Many of the actions inspired by this fixation with honor seem foolish, but considered within the context of how the culture in the saga views reputations and honor make perfect sense.
Everyone has heard the saying, “Oh, the humanity!”, but what does it mean. What is humanity? Merriam-Webster defines humanity as “quality or state of being humane” or the “quality or state of being human”(“Humanity”). Humanity is being kind and compassionate and helping out your fellow man. Maus is a great tool to use to study humanity. Maus shows the depth and degress of humanity and inhumanity of humans. The novel also shows how people's humanity can change for better or for worse.
Why suffering, tragedies, misery, and many other things that relate exists has always been a question that mankind has been attempting to explain for years. Different regions from around the globe all referred to this dark side as evil. It is seen that in the African myth, “The Quarrelsomeness of Man and How the Earth was Peopled” (PM 47) and the Near Eastern myth, “The Enuma Elish” (PM 91) that the existence of the female is the pure reason why earth consists of evil, as well as what a female is capable of that man is not. However, within these two myths, this process is executed differently. In “The Quarrelsomeness of Man and How the Earth was Peopled” (PM 47) a woman unintentionally allows evil to be summoned over mankind; while in “The Enuma Elish” (PM 91) where it is the female who makes the decision to create evil and command it over mankind. One of these myths opens the door for evil, while the other is the source of evil. It is also found that the significance of evil differs from each of the two myths, one affecting the world more than the other.
High risk students showed greater support, quicker processing, and enhanced recall of negative depression-relevant adjectives involving incompetence, worthlessness, and low motivation (Alloy, Abramson, Francis, 1999). For these issues, the counseling center should have a support group for students. Often when a person is depressed, it feels more comfortable to retreat into one’s shell, but being around other people will make a person feel less depressed. To prevent depression, being with peers dealing with the same situations in college can go a very long way in reducing a sense of isolation and worthlessness. Support groups can also give confidence to one another, give and receive guidance on how to cope, and share college experiences.
In an allegedly postmodern world, when looking at tolerance for ideologies other than our own is said to be the only absolute and controlling ideology. Inasmuch, as its doctrine of “sin” suggests that all humans are inherently flawed; Christianity is often viewed as judgmental and intolerant of others. Granted the approach of a certain Baptist church in Topeka, Kansas pushes the extreme that makes all Christians cringe in this area. Christians should not be embarrassed of the doctrine of sin today. Moreover, Christianity should not try to soften what it says about the human condition to be more readily acceptable to a broader world. This world needs help, guidance, and rules if we are to succeed as a human race.
Bernstein, Paula. "Should Schools Teach Etiquette?" Babble RSS. Disney Family, 25 June 2010. Web. 27 Jan. 2014.
Etiquette is defined by the society cohesively as the standard behavior of human interaction and the code of conduct to establish a respectful and courteous environment. As social media and text abbreviations have become normalized in the 21st century, the emergence of informality has alerted the assistant professor Molly Worthern and professor Lisa Wade. In the article, “U Can’t Talk to Ur Professor Like This,” Worthern highlights the prevalence of informality in the interaction between the students and professor. She urges the need of putting etiquette guidelines in the syllabus allowing students to follow the rules. Meanwhile, in the article “10 Things Every College Professor Hates”, Wade highlights college professors’ ten complaints toward

Learn civility leads to build good relationships with others that make life easier, no one can live alone. According to Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary, civility means politeness and saying nice remarks to others. If we need to be civil to make our live more civil and easier to live, we should:
You treat others with love, kindness and respect in order to have unity, not many other places or events can boast that this type of interaction amongst individuals can be achieved. At EDC everyone is treated as equals, no one group feels that they are better than another group for any reason. Unfortunately, in other aspects of our society there is an emphasis on seeing the differences in one another, which divides people instead of bringing them closer to help achieve a multicultural world. The unfortunate way that our world is, as described by Paul Gilroy, it seems we are now condemned to work upon ourselves in conformity with the iron laws of mechanical culture just to hold our imperiled and perennially unstable identities together. In that setting, racial difference and racial hierarchy can be made to appear with seeming spontaneity as a stabilizing force.
