WHAT IS THE BLACK LIVES MOVEMENT? Many people view the Black Lives Matter Movement is a civil rights movement, but according to the creators of the movement, it's a human rights movement. The founders of the movement state that the movement is about the full recognition of our rights as citizens and that the movement is a battle for full social, civil, political, legal, economical, and cultural rights as human beings. Picture WHO CREATED IT? The original founders of the Black Lives Matter Movement were three african-american women by the names of Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi. They created the movement in 2013 after police brutality videos of white policemen shooting unarmed and innocent african american teenagers. It gained a lot of support thanks to the news and the dedicated founders, members, and supporters of the movement. It also gained a lot of supporters due to the fact that in 2014, when a Ferguson police officer by the name of Darren Wilson shot an innocent African American teen by the name of Mike Brown. The founders of the movement, along with some members and supporters of the movement went to St. Louis, Missouri to help the family and to stand up for them, they were pleasantly surprised to realize that over 600 people joined them and helped them in the
