Jessica Vinson History 1060 5/10/15 Mr. Hayworth Research Paper Throughout the many social changes that have occurred in the United States, the Civil Rights Movement has been the most significant to African Americans. After undergoing countless years of slavery, oppression, and racism, the movement was able to bring unity to all Americans. The most interesting thing about the movement is that there was not one particular event that shaped the movement itself; however one event that sparked it which in return led to the uprising of others. The main event that sparked the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement was Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat to white man. The desegregation plan would make the segregation on buses unconstitutional. However, they refused and the boycott continued. As the boycott continued, opponents began to try to stop it by in every way possible. They began to try to tear down the “private taxi system”. This system was designed by the MIA where African Americans and local communities such as churches with cars would bring other African Americans to designated points due to the boycott. On this day, the media reported King on a local city bus seated next to Glenn Smiley (white minister from Texas) making desegregation visually clear. Even after segregation was found to be a violation of the constitution, many still were unhappy with the U.S Supreme court’s decision and violence began to intensify. In January of 1957, buses and African American began to get shot at by snipers, mostly during evening. In response to the ongoing violence, bus companies began to stop bus services after 5 PM and soon later, canceling bus services all together. However, the violence did not stop at bus shooting. Churches began to experience bombing as well and soon later, an explosive bomb was found on King’s porch. The seven white men that were involved in the bombing incidents were tried but not convicted. After the men were accused and tried for the bombing, violence began to decrease. Bus services then reopened and started running back on their normal
