The Keswick Theater was graced to host the Cindy Lauper, “She Is So Unusual 30th Anniversary Tour,” this Friday Nov. 15th.. Indeed it was a night where “Fans Just Want to have Fun,” was the operative and we certainly did!
The Keswick is located in downtown Glenside. The seating is comfortable and the acoustics the very best. There are a number of decent restaurants and a great coffee shop. Come a little early and hang out in the coffee shop and many times you can catch the band getting some hot brew. I'd recommend you arrive about 45 minutes prior to the show so parking is not a challenge. The Theater was designed by the famous architect Horace Trumbauer and some of it's original grandeur has been preserved. It is dead center in the middle of a major restoration, however, that in no way detracts form the experience.
The concert opened with Hunter Valentine a Canadian indie/punk rock band with a round house punch. They have an in your face style and push the music out at the audience. The audience was quite diverse form: young fans especially women, a lot of moms with their daughter dressed like Cindy, and yes us the folks who were their when she started. The lead singer of Hunter Valentine is and she has a powerful and deep voice. She has quite a stage presence and played off of her band mates. A point is that they are an all women band. I'm not familiar with their music but did enjoy “Just Another Love Song,” “Staten Island Dream Tour,” and I think the title was “Feel Like Tonight.” The band received polite applause and performed about 10 songs. ...usic, I guess that is why I love it so much, but I think she really got to the audience with her acoustic version. She has a formidable voice and boy did it get a work out. She played the string dulcimer with aplomb and Eric the melodica with passion and sensitivity that made this wonderful song a true experience. Cindy is a true Renaissance women. She been nominated for every award under the musical sun. She has won many the most recent a Tony for the musical score for “Kinky Boots.”
Not being a music critic leaves me as a music fan. Fan of what I think is just great. Music. I'm usually amazed by most of the artist I go to see. I think Cindy is a more than an artist, she is a entertainer. Someone who has a grip on her art and her fan base. This was another night of just remarkable live music, in a fine venue with mostly a fun seeking and adoring audience.

In conclusion, the most enjoyable part of the opera concert was Alexandra’s beautiful angelic voice. She made it seem like singing those pieces was easy. She sounded like a professional with the pronunciation of the Italian and German words, and the articulation of the notes was absolutely incredible.
The first thing to note about this performance by Guayo Cedeño and the Coco Band is the venue. The Brookfield Place is located downtown, but feels much more like an upscale mall than anything else. The stage itself was in what could be considered a food court, open to anyone passing by. This is not to say that was a bad. Quite the contrary, it proved to be an ideal place for such a performance. The openness allowed for a diverse audience, and also allowed for the speakers to echo the music everywhere. But most importantly, the performance felt very much in the moment. It was a very unique experience, partly for the act itself. While open performances in these venues are common, they are very rarely from acts that would be categorized as “World
Though there's a haunting presence, the six hundred seat house is still full for most events. The theater may not be run by the same employees, and the jobs have changed, but the theater is still as loved by many as it was when it was first opened. The State Theatre of Bay City has one thrilling past from its century of being alive! Competition of other theaters was high in 1906 when The Bijou Theater, now known as The State Theatre, first opened on the “third floor of [the] Ridotto Building, located at the corner of Center and Madison Street in Bay City” (Greene). There was the “Alvarado, Lyric, Grotto, Temple, Roxy, Regent, Empire, and various Opera Houses, all located on [the theaters present day road], Washington Avenue, between the years 1870 and 1960” (LaLonde).
The concert that I attended last Friday was an interesting one where I got to have some new experiences and learn about classical music.
Not having been to many concerts in my life, I did not know what to expect when I went to see Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert recently. I had seen Celine Dion in concert several years ago and was very impressed by her beautiful stage set up, the infallible theatrics of her performers and the wardrobe changes. I had expected the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert to be similar, but it was nothing like that at all especially the environment. I learned that not all concerts are created equal.
I thought it was interesting that you can look at the audience and be able to see the their reactions and really see the quality of the show. The audience remained extremely quiet and attentive, focused throughout the entire performance. I even thought many people were asleep but, I later realized they were just zoning into the moment, really taking in the essence of the music. It looked like it brought out a lot of emotions from the people in the audience, giving them time to reflect and really think. The concert was a different experience for me. The concert covered different types of styles and different artists. My favorite piece was the last piece which was Piece d’ Orgue, by, Bach because it reminded me of a horror movie, and horror is actually my favorite genre. Overall, going to this concert was a bit unusual and out of the norm for me but I would definitely consider it as a very wonderful and very interesting experience. It was very
Once I let my thoughts return to the music, I knew what lie ahead of me. I tapped the nearest "big guy" on the shoulder and pointed towards the ceiling; the universal signal on the concert floor. He nodded, grabbed my foot, and pushed me on top of the crowd. Once I was up there was no turning back. Soon strong hands were surfing me towards the stage. I had the best view in the house and reveled in the moment. I was fueled by an adrenaline rush that was only heightened by the fusion of the music and the energy of the crowd.

During the concert the pianist, drummer and saxophonist did a great job, making the rhythm unforgettable. One of the songs that was performed was "Wrapped around your fingers" it contained a romantic melody. While the piano and saxophone then alternated the rhythm, as the passion of the song was motivating everyone to fall into the rhythm of it. The melody which was steady seemed to get faster like a heartbeat by the climax of the song. The sounds were increasingly getting louder until all instruments met at the top with a ban...
This concert was very nice and enjoyable. The performance overall was very good and easy to listen to. All the pieces they played except for the second one I really did like. I had never been to a chamber music concert before this one, but I really enjoyed the setting and how close you could be to the musicians. ... mine”. Despite the connection I have with the song, I feel that the performance was below average overall because they really lacked stage presence and consistency. I understand that it is a slower song compared to the others in the main setlist, however, even if the pace of the song is slow, the performer must still maintain a balance between energy and chemistry with the audience which they failed to do so. Towards the end, Zayn’s falsetto during his ad-libs in the bridge section made up for the flat notes sung by the group earlier. He has always been the strongest soloist. I also admired the floating platform they used to float above the audience for this song because it changes our perception. I looked up to them physically just as I looked up to them emotionally. It was definitely a good experience. I truly cannot wait to attend another concert of theirs.
After the show had ended, I felt slightly empty. I had waited years and months for that night, and it was over in the blink of an eye. Although I was sad that the show was over, I felt completely content. Now, when I hear their songs, I get to remember what it felt like to hear the band perform them live. I can watch the videos and try to wrap my mind around how it was real. Going to my first concert was an unparalleled experience that I will always cherish.
