To our astonishment, Cilla Black’s “It’s For You,” which hit UK Top 10 in 1964, was actually a Beatles original given to Black a year earlier, the demo for which is now selling high at the Beatles Memorabilia Auction in Liverpool.
Surfing through his father’s treasured record collection on a casual day, Cilla Black’s nephew Simon White rallied about 21 discs for appraisal at the Liverpool Beatles Shop. All 21 carried Black (or so it was believed) until White and store owner Stephen Bailey reached the final disk, which miraculously disseminated the familiar voice of Paul McCartney. “We got to the last one and as soon as I heard it I thought: Oh God, that’s not Cilla Black it’s Paul McCartney,” exclaimed an amazed Bailey. The two shook with

To make “It’s For You” really belong to you certainly cost the lucky winner much shot in bucking down an old rendition under two minutes. That being said, there is legitimate reason behind the announced value. For one thing, it is extremely rare to find a unique recording that had not been released and to possess it singlehandedly, apart from the courtesy copy sent to Sir Paul himself. It is another thing that the item comes in perfect condition despite age and wear, and apart from a few scratches, the quality is still very decent. Therefore, the disk not only encapsulates five decades worth of history in memory of the dismembered band, but also serves useful purpose simply as a music encoder, which upon plugging lets flow the melodious “It’s For You” as McCartney accompanies himself on the piano.
Amongst 300 exclusive items biddable, the demo became a highlight for the 25th annual auction hosted by the Beatles Shop on Matthew Street. Along with a signed Parlophone promotional card capped at £30,000, it set the bar for “17 rare, valuable or just plain wacky lots you could bid for at the auction on Saturday”. Other quirky items included Paul’s teenage pencil sketches (£6-7,000), Rory’s six-string acoustic guitar (£5-6,000), Ringo’s Comme Des Garcons jacket (£3,000-£3,750), a signed autograph package (£1,900-£2,200), Ringo’s sick notes and employment records (£900-£1,500), and the list cheapened from
Abbey Road is heralded as one of the greatest rock ‘n roll albums ever. It grinds with hard rock and sways with soft guitar. The variety of the tracks provides something for everyone. It was created in 1969 at the famous Abbey Road studios. George Martin and Geoff Emerick, who had produced many other Beatles’ albums, contributed to this work. This album is one of the more famous albums of the Beatles, who are one of the most popular bands ever. Almost every piece of this album, even the cover, is art works in themselves.
The Beatles are known, respectively, as the fathers of modern pop music. After their first #1 hit “Please Please Me” was released in 1963 the Beatles were set in motion to become one of the most influential groups of musicians to ever rock our world. With over forty-nine records, 37 #1’s, and thirty- four number one albums (the highest amount of any band in history), there is no denying that they made a monumental ripple in the musical world. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr surprisingly all come from humble beginnings in a town that, until their superstardom, was barely noticed on the map. Liverpool, being kn...
Joe Cocker’s cover of a not as well known song by a mega popular band (popularity and well known status of the Beatles), combined with the timing of the world (counterculture, experimentation, not so rigid roles) and his own talent and personal twist on “With a Little Help from My Friends” (everything he changed about the song), helped Joe Cocker rise to success that he might otherwise not have found without the indirect help from the Beatles.
To understand Lennon’s attempt at displaying his raw emotions through this song, one must also understand the influence behind Lennon’s decision. Bob Dylan influenced all of the Beatles in a significant way in their early Beatlemania years: Dylan introduced the Beatles to marijuana, mistaking “I can’t hide” for “I get high” in “She Loves You”. While the Beatles experimented with several energy drugs, they had not yet used marijuana, and they soon discovered that it bestowed the group with the ability to relax and escape from the stress of dealing with Beatlemania. After ...
In the august of 58’ Paul tried promoting George Harrison, his young friend, to John, to play guitar in the band (The Beatles). It took awhile but, John decided to listen to him play (Glassman). Do to George’s raw talent John decided he could let him in (Glassman).
Today the Beatles are still well known for their hit songs and albums back from the 1960s. But why didn’t they stay together longer than that? Even though the White Album was a huge success, it also hinted towards the end of the Beatles. This 2-disc hit was long past due and left Beatles fans thirsty for more. The album was ninety-four minutes of pure entertainment. The individual songs on the album, background stories, and relationships held during the recording of this album are thought to be some of the main reasons as to why the Beatles broke up.

McCartney was raised in a traditional working-class family, just like a fellow beatles Ringo Starr and George Harrison. When McCartney was 14 years old, his mother died of complications after a mastectomy. Also bandmate , John Lennon, also lost his mother at a young age - a connection that would create a close bond between the two musicians. Encouraged by his father to try out multiple musical instruments, Paul McCartney began his lifelong love affair with music at an early age. Though he took formal music lessons as a boy, the future star preferred to learn by ear, teaching himself the Spanish guitar, trumpet and piano. By age 16, he had already written "When I 'm Sixty-Four," in hopes of eventually selling it to Frank Sinatra. In 1957, He met John Lennon at a festival where Lennon’s band was performing. McCartney was asked to join Lennon’s band, The two quickly became the group 's songwriters, ushering it through many name changes and a few personnel changes as well. Early on, they agreed that all of their songs would be credited to Lennon-McCartney, no matter who had taken lead or, as happened occasionally, written the songs entirely on their

Success was hard for the Beatles started as the Quarrymen then turning into the Silver Beatles and touring through Germany playing long hours’ day and night at different clubs and venues. In fact, and article written by Andrew Romano from the Daily Beast states that one of Gladwell’s theory is revolved around Hamburg during their intense hours of playing. He states that after the Beatles had reached their point of fame during 1964, they had performed a total of twelve hundred times which Gladwell states” the idea that excellence at performing a complex task requires a minimal level of practice”. According to Gladwell this is what allowed them to become they greatest rock band of all time. Although this was Beatles point of greatness, once returning to Liverpool they still had a point to prove the world. After Brian Epstein spent many days convincing different labels, being rejected by the same record labels, changing their style, and cleaning up their act for the music industry, they were finally able to sign a label with United Kingdom’s leading music record company during May of 1962. By October of 1963, the Beatles had the opportunity to appear on the Sunday Night At the Long Palladium. During this time, if one was able to perform here you had reached a high point in the
The sixties and seventies were a time of war, peace and revolution, with “hippies” leading anti-war movements, and protests happening across the nation due to the administration of Richard Nixon and the Vietnam War. John Lennon originally a member of The Beatles, became a star in the anti-war subculture, and a hero to many, not only for his musicianship and the Beatle-mania that was spread across the country but for being a voice of the people. The Beatles were at the time, the voices of their generation and eventually became a product of their generation, with their songs highlighting the issues of the time. Even with the disbanding of The Beatles in 1969, Lennon continued to be a force in the culture, with his wife Yoko Ono and himself taking a prominent role in the media and movement against the war.
The popularity of the Beatles proves time and time again to be nothing short of eternal. Like any great works of art, the Beatles’ records carried and still do carry an ageless brilliance that continues to captivate new generations of listeners. Their records are still heard heavily today on the radio, continue to sell in immense quantities, and are forever remembered through the covers done by pop and rock artists in present day.

Walking into the theatre, handing my ticket to the ticket lady, I watched as workers scurried about trying to make sure everything was perfect for the upcoming concert. Chrome edged boxes were stacked in a couple of corners with the occasional person grabbing something instrumental out of one. In the adjacent corner of the building there were Jars of Clay souvenirs. There were posters, CD's, clothing, key chains, and lots of other visually appealing items on the tables.
