Chuck Berry is known as one of the most influential artists of the rhythm and blues, rock and roll error of music from the 50’s through the 70’s. Down Bound Trains tempo is much faster than that of Maybellene although Maybellene has an up to beat tempo as well. The lyrics of both songs contain a little slang which adds soul to the songs, it makes you feel it more and or really feel the emotion that he put into the song. Chuck Berry’s dialect in both songs really don’t portray the rock and roll genre of music. In the song Down Bound Train the music kind of makes you feel like you are being chased by something and or someone. Maybellene on the other hand sounds like something you would square dance to. Maybellene and Down Bound Train both incorporate polyrhythmic texture techniques in the songs. Meanings of these two songs vary too. In Down Bound Train Chuck Berry is warning against the alcohol abuse and redemption from doing so. Also about a woman, this song has more happy lyrics about a woman he loved and how his baby was coming home. There are a lot more instruments to this song like an electric guitar, a piano, a saxophone, percussion, etc. and the song was primarily instrumental, which emphasized these different musical instruments. Goree Carter’s voice was a lot smoother than James’ which made it easy to understand and follow along with, and the strength that came from his vocal style easily pulls you in.
