Christopher Columbus day should not be celebrated because of his brutal actions against the Native population he did achieve many good things that brought change but what he did to the natives overshadows all his good achievements. Christopher Columbus was born in the Republic of Genoa, Italy 1451 he was considered to some a great explorer and navigator. During the time he lived Columbus made four voyages in the Atlantic ocean his purpose was to find a way to Asia because he learned that there was a lot of riches there. Columbus was not a good man not only as stated above to the natives but also his own men and they had to put up with his mistreatments. The natives were too kind upon his arrival to the island and he took advantage of their kindness. The natives showed him and his crew the way to where there was gold. To him they might have been easy to control or trick since all they were doing was helping him. Columbus did end up stealing their freedom which really affected the natives. Columbus and his men tortured, and killed the natives when they would defy his orders the native women also were raped. In his time it was brave to travel to sea because not just anyone was willing to sail around the ocean especially if they had no knowledge of navigation Columbus was one of those men with the knowledge and experience of navigation and sailing in the ocean. Columbus achievements included the finding of a new land that others were not aware of he never did find what he was actually looking for. Columbus did not just try once but four times to find Asia and he was not willing to give up until his last voyage.
