Why Is Christopher Columbus An Interesting Man?

Growing up, all throughout middle school and at my household Christopher Columbus was always being brought up and talked about for everything he had did. but the problem was it was never really explained well enough for me to understand what made him such an interesting person, and that is why I chose Christopher Columbus to write my paper on so I can understand what had made him such an interesting man. Christopher was an italian explorer, navigator, colonizer and citizen of the republic of genoa. Under the auspices of the catholic monarchs of spain, he completed four voyages across the atlantic ocean. Columbus was known for his trading expeditions, and in the 1450 's he went on multiple trading trips, that took him to the Aegean sea, northern Europe, and Iceland. He and his family lived in lisbon until 1483, when columbus wife had passed. Him and his son diego moved to spain, where Columbus began to obtain the idea of exploring western trade routes. As intelligent as he was, he believed the earth was a sphere which meant a ship could reach the far east and set up trading routes in asia by sailing west. Columbus had some road blocks in this idea because the Portuguese and spanish kings turned down his proposition each time. Things changed drastically in 1492 when king ferdinand, reconsidered his requests. in return columbus promised to bring back gold, spices, and silk from asia, spread christianity and explore china. he requested to be admiral of the sea 's , and govenor of discovered lands, also spanish monarchs gave him significant

Columbus gained hatred for the small amounts of gold by the native population.
