Case History: Cristina Yang

Late 30s

Father died while she was 9 from a car crash

Ignores her biological family, not close with her mother and her father is deceased

While living in seattle and creates a new family with her best friend Meredith Grey

Left at the altar, a ectopic pregnancy, strangled in her sleep, abortion that ruins her marriage, cheated on, a hospital shooting, and a plane crash. During the plane crash she faced extreme dehydration, fear, and freezing. Witnessed wolfs eating her best friend’s sister and helplessness. While stranded she had to drink her own urine and even the jet fuel

After the crash Yang was admitted for medical attention and ended up throwing a plant at the glass at interns

Went for help because she was under a lot of stress and could not go back to work unless she was cleared by a psychologist and a therapist. Doesn’t want to be cleared or work at the hospital because of the trauma.

When questioned she closes up and will go into a dissociated and hostile state. She has issues when forming close bonds with others but once formed she will stay with them. To gather a better feel for her personality she would be an INTJ so she keeps trying to process these conflicting feelings with performing surgeries and working for days without sleep. Has gone without sleep for 4 days.

Reaction to trauma: She just stares and breathes. Now will no longer fly on planes. Will zone out while people talk because she can barely hear them.meaning she has a conversion disorder that leads her to show physical symptoms to the trauma. Does not want to go back to being a surgeon so Derek takes time to teach her to fish white he recovers. She is getting better with Derek and gets a job as a bartender at the local bar.
