George Frideric Handel was born in Halle, Germany in early 1685. He died in April of 1759 at the age of 74. By the time he died he was the most renowned musician and composer of his day. Handel which is pronounced Hendle, traveled to Italy to study the construction of Italian opera. George studied at the feet of some of the foremost composers of his day. Vivaldi in particular had a large effect on Handel. Handel led a long and inspiring life. While Handel did not break any molds he was revolutionary for the diversity of his music. He wrote operas in the style of Italy, his other works could be English or German, each with its own individual style. Due to his high rank of employment and long life picking his best work is extremely difficult but his most known work was “The Messiah.” After Italy he went back to Germany, when he could not obtain a job, he moved on to London England. In England he composed and released thirty six operas. When the times moved toward biblical oratorios Handel just shifted his production of music in that direction. Handles “Ester “was his ...
