Choosing a right career path can be tough. Especially, when the parents are involved. Parents want their children to have a better life in the future so they want their children to be educated. When they are successfully graduate from the college they can get a high paying job and earn much more than their parents. However, does everyone listen and follow their parents’ decisions about the career? What happen if kids didn’t want what their parents told them to do? Is there a compromise and or one side needs to give in? It was a tough decision for me too. There was a lot of pressure on me. I was hesitated and somehow worried when my parents were involved, but I knew what I want for my career.
It was the last summer I spent with my high school friends. I had heard excessively many suggestions, comments and recommendations about the career. And one night I made my own final decision on a video from YouTube. The video was about a graphic designer recorded his working progress about a game character in the Photoshop. Later on, I did a little research about the video and I found out that the character that he was making was published two weeks later in the game called League of Legend. I downloaded the game and I enjoyed the graphic of the game and the unique playing style. He worked for the Riot Company in the LA, and he is a professional graphic designer to me. After watching this video three times, I was amazed and I felt that this is my thing. I want it. The video inspired and directed me to my future career path.
Both of my parents are blue-collar workers. My father did not go to middle school and my mother did not finish her middle school education. My father always wanted me to get a white-collar job, someone who worked in a...

... had the similar situation as me. Alfred’s father is a blue-collar worker who raised him to be a white-collar person. However, he did not want to do what his father told him to do, he wanted to be a newspaper writer. Later on, his father agreed and even envied about the author’s job and their relationship was pulled together at the end.
My goal is to be a profession graphic designer who still learn and work at the same time with my friends and coworkers. I do not concern about my income yet, but I knew in 2013, graphic designers could earn 69 grands a year. (Taute) I will like to live somewhere close to my career so I can put my full attention to my affair. I also will like to see my works present in the game and or on the TV and share with others. Then I will travel around the world if possible to get more knowledge and try out new things.
Before finally deciding on my career path, I had a very hard time trying to choose which path I wanted to take. After considering what I truly enjoy doing and what skills I possess, I have decided that I wanted to become a graphic designer. I want to be a graphic designer, because I feel that I would have a chance to use all of the skills I possess and be happy while doing it. In order to become a graphic designer, there are certain educational requirements that must be met. There are also specific job requirements that I must accomplish. Although there are many requirements, the personal benefits I gain will make up for all of the hard work in the end.
Just because you are young or little does not mean you should stop following your dream. Just because you are a boy or girl does not mean you have to go into a certain career field. A company that is showing a good example of boys and girls choosing whatever career path they want is "Barbie." In "Forrest Gump" he was running away from bullies with his leg braces on and Jenny yelled "Run Forrest Run." His leg braces broke and he was running without them. Also in "Forrest Gump" Forrest followed his career path and some of his careers were football, shrimp fishing, and the army.
I remember a time in my life when I would always play with little children. At that point, at the age of six or seven, I decided to become a pediatrician or a kindergarten teacher. When I started high school, I started feeling stressed out because of the pressure that I was doing to myself to reach my goal of becoming a pediatrician. I could hardly focus on the topic we would have during class because I would be thinking about my future as a pediatrician. With the help of my friends, they helped me overcome the obstacles that I had. The more I thought about what profession I wanted to be, I thought about how much I loved working and dealing with computers. My friends and cousins told me that I should and can be what ever I wanted, and that helped me decide to major in computer engineering at San Jose State University. So you see when it comes down to life, dreams are not the only thing that can keep men going, friendships, pets and companionships can do the same.
Our parents constantly remind us that becoming a doctor, a lawyer, or any job that would benefit you is always the right career path to take. In fact, according to researchers from Association of American Medical Colleges, revealed that only 21,030 of the 53,042 students who applied to get into medical school are accepted, that is roughly 40% of the students and the other 60% get rejected. But yet, our parents does not understand that these professions they wished upon us have the littlest to no interest towards many young individuals. This is evident in The Boat by Alistair MacLeod, which tells us that many adolescents have been shut down without a proper statement about our future, this is because our future was either influenced by our parents
As we grow older, we often have stages. We want to be a racecar driver, a veterinarian, or an astronaut. But then after a few years those change. Maybe to more realistic jobs or goals. A lot of people’s influences come from what their parents have become, or what they want them to become. Most times you will pursue your parents goal for you because you trust them. But imagine that your parents have totally opposite ideas for your future. Along with an elder that has a huge impact on you. What side would you chose? You couldn’t chose your mother’s side without your father
I didn’t have a lot growing up but I my parents made sure we always have what we needed. My mother and father always wanted me to get an engineer or a business degree. They wanted to be able to make more money and become more successful than they ever were. When I showed an interest in history and psychology in high school I knew they would be disappointed in me. I never cared about making money, I knew I wanted to be able to make a living doing something that I was passionate about. One day I hope to get my degree in social work and do just that. One of my favorite sayings is that if you enjoy what you do you will never work a day in your life written by Confucius.
I did not follow my parents’ advice because I felt they were pushing me to stay in school and they did not want the best for me. After, I discovered that they wanted me to get a better job and better life. Furthermore, the best advice I received is not to give up because someone says I can’t do it. After I finished high school, I went to visit my parents and we had a good talk. I was with my siblings and I told them that I wanted to continue with school.
You go three years of high school preparing for college and at the same time having fun. Until you are in your senior year of high school that’s when you realize and start asking your self what college do I want to go to? Or what college career I want to pursue? That’s when you notice you have but so little time to answer these questions. Me I’m in my last year of high school and I though I already knew what career I wanted to pursue, but its now that I notice that not even I know what I’m going to do with my life? All I’m sure of its that I’m going to graduate out of high school with a diploma and that I’m going to college. But what happens after that? What major did I study? Or where did I go to accomplish my goal?
I am not saying ignore those around you who tell of their experiences, which one can learn a great deal from, just do not let the pressure to earn money or please your parents be the deciding factor of what you do for the rest of your life. Father James Burtchaell makes a good point in claiming that “the choice of a major is not the choice of a career,” it is a stepping stone, an important one, but your major does not define your
Abraham Lincoln once said, “Whatever you are, be a good one.” The world is filled with many interesting careers, but two careers in particular grab my attention and fit my personality best that I can be good at. A police patrol officer and Christian ministry are the two careers that have always kept my attention growing up. The first, being a police patrol officer is a career I have always wanted to get involved in since I was a kid. I would like to have a job with some excitement and adrenaline, which a police officer experiences almost everyday. Based on what my score was from the Career Cluster Inventory results, on the Ohio Career Information System, and from the PLAN test results, I can say that this career field suits me well and fits my personality. The second option for a career that also suits me well is Christian ministry; the broader term being clergy. This career fits my personality because, I myself, am a Christian and this field of work coincides with my beliefs. I desire to serve God and teach other people about Christ, so this career opens the door for me to practice that. The results from the Career Cluster Inventory show that I am suited for this career. I possess the skills that these lines of work require except the training. One way I am preparing to become a police patrol officer is becoming more physically fit to be ready for the physical demands of this job. Currently I am taking a Bible course called Faith Bible Institute, which is essentially an adult-level college class that will help prepare me for Christian ministry. Many colleges and universities offer degrees and training for these two careers, and I have been researching these schools and their programs as well.
My three college choices are University of Florida, University of Seattle and Ohio University. Each of these colleges have good qualities for my careers. I’m not very sure what exactly I want to have a career in. Two of my main choices are veterinarian or child care. Some of my concerns are the distance, cost of tuition, the quality of the program, and the recreation at the colleges.
By the time I graduated, I see myself working in one of the big animation or gaming com...
Often times, I can’t help but wonder what my life would be like if I haven’t been exposed to the world of business; a wonderful career that changed my life completely. I have taken interest in business career because I love calculating numbers and interacting with people; But most importantly, my fascination in business came from my grandfather. He taught me many valuable tips on how to be a successful person, and most certainly how to run a business. He was not only a successful businessman, but also a respected individual. One of the businesses that he owned was a company called “Wu Long Tea Factory”. The main thing that they produce is tea of course, but they also have products such as cakes, candies, and all kinds of stuff. By being the production manager’s assistant of this company, I was able to experience everything that was going on in the factory. Even though that was the background I grew up in, my biggest fascination wasn’t in being a manager in a factory; it was the finance part that got me all excited. Often times I can even see myself sitting in my office and work on clients’ financial profiles and statements. I also took extra math classes and participated in many of the competitions in order to prepare myself to succeed in this particular field. Other things that I also did to get me well prepared are joining school activities, applying internships, and having jobs. I believe that all my hard work will pay off, when I see myself as a successful businessman.
It’s the nature of parents to want the best for their children. They want to give the best clothes, the most nutritional food and what is the most important is the best education for their children. However, it is a little bit more complicated when it comes to decide what is best for their children’s education. It is very difficult to decide for the children’s education path especially when they are entering college or university, because at this age most children have not discovered their true identity and interest yet. A lot of students nowadays do not have any satisfactory answer when they were asked why they chose a particular course or subject in university. Most of them will probably answer because it is what their parents tell them to learn and this situation is really a concern that people need to put their thought into. University students should know why they want to take a particular course in order for them to have a clear life goal and ardour to achieve it. They should not hide behind their parents shadow and just blindly follow what their parents think they should do. It is vital for parents not to make final decision for their children’s field of studies due to the generation gap, dissimilar passion and also higher probability of inaccurate judgement.
These decisions may also include the career they plan to take in the near future. As stated by Bettina Lankard (as cited in Vargas – Benitez, 2013), teens living happily with and seeing their family thriving due to a good career path are more likely to imitate the same path taken by their parents. However, it is not the same for those teens in the opposite situation – a teen who is lonely and sees that their family is financially struggling. These teens have a high chance to choose a completely different path from their parent’s career because of their desire to change their
