Chivalry in Today’s Society

Chivalry is the combination of qualities expected of an ideal knight, especially courage, honor, courtesy, justice, and a readiness to help the weak. In today’s society, people do not have a concept what chivalry is. Today there are people being killed every hour because someone doesn’t like what someone else said, for example, there was a shooting in Chicago on November 21st, 2016. Nine people were dead, leaving nineteen wounded. The gunmen were sixteen and seventeen-year-old boys. People today have problems in their day to day lives and they are posting their problems on every social media account they can get their noses in. People are putting too much on the internet, they don’t realize that if it's on …show more content…

School violence is a huge concern in America today. In 2015, there were 64 school shootings in the United States alone. Mass shootings killed 475 people and wounding 1,870 people. 2015 was the year for mass shootings, having three hundred and seventy -five mass shootings. Another major concern is abuse. In today’s society people are being abused by their love ones. Abuse or domestic violence can happen to anyone, age, sexual orientation, religion, or gender. It’s very hard to tell if someone in an abusive relationship, it may seem almost perfect in the early stages. Some sign of abuse is someone telling another they can’t do anything right and keeping someone discouraging them from seeing their friends, and family. Abuse is repeated pattern of behaviors to maintain power. Physical abuse is pulling hair, punching, slapping, biting, or choking, forbidding someone from eating or sleeping and hurting one with weapons. Some relationships get so out of hand they result in murder and even suicide (“Warning signs and Flags”).

In Conclusion, if today’s society brought back chivalry, then the world problems would start to lessen by the second. Today’s society doesn’t realize that the world doesn’t just revolve around that one person. They think that everything is going to be handed to them and that they are going to get everything in life they want. From posting everything on social media to abuse. If chivalry makes a comeback in this world

Chivalry was not always followed in Le Morte D’Arthur much alike comitatus in Beowulf. The biggest withdrawal from chivalry is done by Lancelot. Lancelot broke this social system by taking part in an affair with Guinevere, by doing this he shatters the law of service to one’s lord. It is this decision that results in other characters in the story to stride away from the rules of chivalry, and in the end bring down the society. His decision caused warriors to conspire to catch Lancelot with Guinevere, which in the end leads to Lancelot killing several knights to escape. A pattern forms where a character breaks one part of the code of chivalry in the goal of keeping another code of chivalry intact. Eventually, this results in the demise of the Arthurian society. Because of Lancelot’s failure to follow the code of chivalry, he and Arthur create a long war. A lot of confusion in the warriors results from this, much like when Arthur’s men are ordered to have Guinevere burned, yet it was a violation of chivalry to not be loyal to your lady, and also a violation not to follow an order of the king.
